Taylor Frankie Paul recently shared a tearful selfie and explained how she’s dealing with the aftermath of the domestic violence allegations she’s facing.
The upcoming season of ‘The Bachelorette’ featuring Paul was cancelled after a video surfaced showing her throwing chairs during a 2023 incident with her former partner, Dakota Mortensen. This has led to a significant and ongoing legal dispute.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve been following this situation with Paul and Mortensen, and it’s been really upsetting to see play out in public. Both of them, ages 31 and 33 respectively, have accused each other of being violent, and for a time, they both had court orders in place to protect themselves from one another. It’s a sad reminder that relationships can sometimes turn difficult, and legal issues can arise.
Paul is coping with this difficult time thanks to thoughtful gifts she received before the scandal became public.
Paul shared on Instagram Thursday that gifts have been a great source of comfort and support during a difficult time.
I’m incredibly grateful for all the support I’ve received. Every kind gesture – the messages, meals, gifts, calls, and prayers – has been essential during this difficult time. It’s truly heartwarming, and when you look at everything together, it feels like more than just kindness – it feels miraculous.
I was really touched by a post I saw from Paul. It was a selfie of her in her car, clearly upset – you could see tears in her eyes and she had her hand over her mouth. The caption was so powerful; she wrote about how amazingly, everything she needed – whether it was something practical or just a kind reminder – came to her through other people. It really struck me how much she relies on the kindness of others, and it was beautiful to see her acknowledge that.
One of the photos showed a Starbucks drink she bought, and it included a sweet message from the barista saying she was loved.
A star from “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” seems to be embracing her religion more openly, as she shared a picture of Jesus Christ – reportedly a housewarming gift – that she received orally.
She’s currently reading a book Paul gave her last year, intended to offer her support and solace during both happy and difficult times.
According to court documents obtained by People magazine, Paul requested a temporary restraining order against Mortensen on Tuesday, alleging a history of abusive behavior and controlling tactics during their relationship.
She detailed multiple instances where he supposedly became violent with her. Paul shared what he claimed were screenshots of text messages and photos of bruises, saying they were the result of arguments with Mortensen.
Last month, Mortensen obtained a temporary restraining order against Paul, claiming he felt she posed an immediate danger to his safety.
Just days before her season of The Bachelorette was scheduled to air, allegations about Paul’s past involvement in domestic violence have surfaced.
I was absolutely devastated to find out that production on her other show, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, had actually been stopped. Apparently, it all happened because she and Mortensen were being investigated for… domestic assault. It just felt so unreal, like something out of a nightmare. I couldn’t believe something like that could happen to her, especially while she was trying to balance everything!
As a longtime follower of this case, I remember when the Draper City Police Department officially confirmed to People magazine that they were actively investigating Paul and Mortensen for domestic assault. It was a really concerning time, and that confirmation made it all feel so much more real.
Both sides have made claims, according to a department spokesperson. They also stated that officials reached out to those involved on February 24th and 25th.
This happened three years after Paul admitted guilt to aggravated assault in a separate domestic violence case involving Mortensen.
In 2023, Paul admitted to aggravated assault after throwing chairs at Mortensen while her daughter, Indy, was present.
Oh my god, it was awful! I could hear this little girl just wailing while everything was going down. And Mortensen, he was telling Paul – his voice was all frantic – that his daughter had just been hit in the head with a metal chair! A metal chair! I nearly lost it. It was absolutely heartbreaking, and I just kept thinking about that poor little girl.
As a lifestyle expert, I’ve seen firsthand how quickly things can change, and this situation is a perfect example. When video footage of the incident surfaced, it unfortunately led to the end of her journey on ‘The Bachelorette.’ ABC made the difficult decision to cancel the remainder of her season, and they’ve stated it’s happening ‘at this time,’ leaving the future uncertain.
Following the release of a new video today, we’ve decided to postpone the upcoming season of The Bachelorette. Our priority right now is supporting the involved family.
Following the reappearance of the video, Paul’s spokesperson stated to the Daily Mail that it was upsetting to witness another attempt by him to damage Taylor’s reputation, seemingly without considering the impact on their child. They described it as a continuous, desperate effort to gain attention.
Honestly, it really bothered me to see them release that old video on their son’s birthday. It felt like a deliberately misleading move, clearly intended to take the attention off of their own actions. It just seemed incredibly low and disrespectful, especially considering the timing.
According to TMZ, Mortensen requested a court order for protection in Utah just two days before the video became public. This request followed claims of incidents that happened on February 23rd and 24th.
In his court documents, he asked for temporary custody of their two-year-old son, Ever, and requested that Paul not be allowed to drink alcohol or use drugs when Ever is with her.
Okay, so here’s what happened – apparently, things got really heated between me and Paul. It started as just yelling, but then… then he actually put his hands around my neck! I can’t even believe he choked me. It was terrifying, honestly. I’m still shaken up just thinking about it.
He claimed she grabbed his neck, and he had to pull her hands away. After that, she pushed him into a window and then hit him.
According to TMZ, Mortensen described the scene as ‘chaotic’ and ‘frightening,’ explaining that their son was woken up by the noise, including Paul screaming and yelling.
The order was granted, as well as his custody request.
Following a hearing on April 7th, the judge decided Paul can visit her son for up to eight hours each week, with supervision.
As a dedicated follower of this case, I understand the current custody setup will last for exactly three weeks and two days. Then, we’ll all be back in court on April 30th for the next hearing to determine what happens next.
