Aussies Slam ‘The Block’ for ‘Woke’ Makeover After ‘All Gay’ Cast Considered
Critics, or viewers of “The Block,” have criticized the renovation series following news that Channel Nine contemplated an all-gay cast for the 2025 Daylesford season, claiming it has become too politically correct (or ‘woke’).
Ultimately, they decided against the initial concept, but instead, they opted to pay tribute to the LGBTQIA+ heritage of the Victorian town during their first day of shooting, by adopting a Pride-themed setting.
Currently, the series on Facebook is receiving criticism from critics who feel that its efforts towards inclusivity are being met with disapproval. Some even go so far as to say that the show has fallen short and is not up to par.
‘Go woke go broke,’ one person wrote.
‘Finally, the last nail in the coffin for this s***show,’ another added.
A third commented: ‘This show has gone to the dogs.’
At times when you believe the performance couldn’t sink any further, they surprise you with such mediocre content instead.
Another individual expressed it similarly.
In the face of criticism, some enthusiasts stood up for Nine and applauded the producers for highlighting Daylesford’s diverse past.
Or:
Despite a surge of opposition, certain fans came to the aid of Nine, expressing their appreciation for the way the producers showcased Daylesford’s welcoming history.
One person commented, ‘I’m not quite understanding all the excitement. Long live diversity! Daylesford is charming and welcoming, making it an ideal setting for a show.’
“Daylesford holds a special place in my heart, given its rich history as a warm and inclusive destination. Kudos to the creators for their thoughtful choice.
One individual commented: ‘Since they are located in Daylesford, let’s honor both pride and its rich, welcoming past. Good fortune to all participants!’
I absolutely adore this program! The Block consistently shows appreciation and consideration towards the communities it integrates with. I’m really looking forward to catching the new series set in Daylesford, plus there’s an extra twist to it as well!
On a day filled with cheer, pictures exclusively captured by Daily Mail Australia on Friday showed the upcoming cast members enthusiastically flaunting their support for the LGBTQIA+ community.
Although the rumor about a completely LGBTQ+ cast for the 2025 season has been proven false, the show still acknowledged Daylesford’s colorful past related to the rainbow movement during the first day of shooting.

This year, the competitors chose their most vibrant outfits for the event, and a group made up entirely of women drew attention in eye-catching yellow and pink cowboy headgear.
This year’s rumored female couple arrived at the pride parade wearing bright smiles, waving rainbow flags, and draped in vibrant feather boas on a decorated float.
Following the disclosure that The Block’s 2025 season might feature an all-gay cast in honor of Daylesford’s historical significance, this is one possibility: After reports emerged, it was suggested that the producers of The Block were contemplating a cast comprised entirely of gay individuals for the 2025 season as a tribute to Daylesford’s past.
This year’s popular renovation show will be filmed at a quaint, remote retreat located approximately 112 kilometers from Melbourne. This picturesque spot is famous for hosting the vibrant LGBTQIA+ ChillOut Festival.
A source close to the situation confirmed to Daily Mail Australia that a lesbian duo is among the five teams that have been contracted for this season.
According to the source, it was not just consideration for Channel Nine, but they actually considered producing a whole series featuring only gay characters at some point.
For the second time, a reality show featured two female contestants – Julia Treuel and Sasha Wright-Neville in 2016; interestingly, they were the first same-sex couple on the show.
During the first season in 2003, the duo composed of Gavin ‘Gav’ Atkins and Warren ‘Waz’ Sonin quickly gained popularity among fans.

However, the source said ‘official plans’ for an all gay season were abandoned for a few reasons.
Essentially, such shows aren’t effective when they aim for “celebrity stacking” or casting an entirely LGBTQ+ cast. This is the gist of their argument.
In essence, it’s unlikely that Channel Nine or any other broadcasting station would take such a casting approach due to the risk of losing viewer support.
It sounds exciting on paper, and it could be vibrant and satisfying, but there’s a chance it might turn off certain groups of people.
In the meantime, an advocate from Daylesford expressed their view that prioritizing ‘inclusion’ would have been appropriate for The Block in the year 2025.
They pointed out that it would appear to be a significant omission if someone from the LGBTQ+ community wasn’t included in the production, especially given its deep roots in Daylesford spanning many decades.
‘It was groundbreaking to have Gav and Waz on TV at 6:30pm in the first season in 2003.
It’s not surprising that The Block has addressed the LGBTQIA+ community before, but there seems to be a particular motivation behind their inclusion this year.
Meanwhile, Daylesford is recognized as the “gay capital of regional Victoria” on the Visit Gay Australia (VGA) website.
One of its draws for the LGBTQIA+ community is the annual ChillOut Festival, famously known as Australia’s leading Queer Country Pride event.
The VGA also claims Daylesford is a favourite getaway for members of the queer community.
