After almost twenty years since the movie Wanted came out, discussions about a sequel have started again. Director Timur Bekmambetov recently hinted that Wanted 2 is still a possibility, but it will only happen if certain conditions are met.

Talk about a potential sequel to the 2008 action movie Wanted is happening again. Director Timur Bekmambetov recently revealed some new ideas that could get the project moving after being on hold for over ten years. Despite the first movie’s success, a follow-up featuring Angelina Jolie, James McAvoy, and Morgan Freeman hadn’t materialized – until now, potentially.
While promoting his latest film, Mercy, Timur Bekmambetov revealed that the success of his 2026 science fiction movie could determine the fate of several of his previous film series.
Timur Bekmambetov stated that Mercy’s performance will inspire him to create more compelling films. He explained to ScreenRant that while he has ideas for future projects, their development heavily relies on how well Mercy does. He emphasized that the possibility of continuing these movies hinges on Mercy’s success, saying its fate is, quite literally, ‘at the mercy of Mercy’.
The director has an idea for a second film, which he calls amazing, but he’s not sharing any details yet until the project gets closer to happening. He also hinted that Chris Pratt, who had a smaller role in the first movie, could have a bigger part in a sequel if it’s made.
He continued by highly praising Jolie, describing her as an extraordinary person. The director also expressed his strong desire to see her perform in action on screen again.
Released in 2008, the action movie Wanted has a 72% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The story centers on Wesley Gibson, a regular office worker who learns his father was a member of a secret society of assassins. He’s then brought into this dangerous world and taught to track down the man who killed his father.
A sequel to Wanted hasn’t been officially greenlit yet, but director Timur Bekmambetov has suggested that talks about it are still happening.
