Gavin and Stacey star almost unrecognisable as they join long-running BBC period drama

The BBC has given us a sneak peek of Robert Wilfort, who stars in Gavin and Stacey, as he takes on a new role in Father Brown.

Today at 2 pm, I’m pumped to share that the guy famously recognized for his character, Jason West, and the notorious fishing escapade, is making a cameo on the gripping BBC One murder mystery show!

As a gamer, I’m set to embody the role of William Fitzgibbon – a respected math professor hailing from the prestigious halls of Gloucester University, as reported by What To Watch.com.

In a first glance, Wilfort appears nearly unrelated to his previous self in his new character, as he has parted ways with Jason’s signature beard. Instead, he adopts a more scholarly demeanor reminiscent of a 1950s professor, complete with glasses, a bow tie, and a waistcoat.

William will show up accompanied by his wife, Martha (Nicola Stephenson), who is part of a local sewing group.

As I eavesdrop on the whispered words exchanged between William and Catherine during our sewing circle meeting, I can’t help but suspect they might be involved in something more than just friendship – it seems like they’re hiding an affair from us all.

When Catherine is discovered murdered, William immediately emerges as the prime suspect and gets summoned for interrogation by Chief Inspector Sullivan (portrayed by Tom Chambers). However, Father Brown (played by Mark Williams) doubts William’s guilt.

In December 2024, Wilfort once again stepped into the shoes of character Jason for the Christmas special of Gavin and Stacey, marking the end of the series’ narrative for the cherished figures residing in Essex and Barry.

A sneak peek at old home videos from Uncle Bryn and Jason’s legendary fishing excursion was revealed in an exclusive behind-the-scenes episode that aired in early January, exciting fans everywhere.

The video displays Jason successfully reeling in a fish. Later, Uncle Bryn lifts the catch together with him, exclaiming, “There’s dinner for everyone tonight!

Of course, before we got to see what really went down on the trip, the special cut to credits.

Father Brown airs on BBC One.
