Chevrolet Unleashes 1,100 HP Silverado EV ZR2 Race Truck Concept

Chevrolet recently unveiled the Silverado EV ZR2 off-road racing truck model at the Mint 400 event. This electric vehicle will contest in the Open Production EV category with Chad Hall as its driver, representing the Hall Racing team. The new Silverado EV ZR2 complements their existing collection of Chevrolet race-tested trucks such as the Silverado ZR2 and Colorado ZR2.

The Silverado EV ZR2 race truck concept is built to exceed expectations in electric off-road performance, emulating the successful ZR2 formula found in Chevrolet’s regular trucks. It boasts a suspension lift and off-road-tailored adjustments, incorporates Multimatic damper technology, offers locking differentials, and includes underbody protection for enhanced toughness. Although it is currently a concept, the truck was constructed in only five months using 98% of parts similar to those used in GM’s standard production.

The core of this race truck is a three-motor electric drive system that pumps out an impressive 1,100 horsepower and a massive 11,500 pound-feet of torque. It rolls on robust 37-inch BF Goodrich KM3 Mud-Terrain tires, and it showcases innovative Multimatic Adaptive Spool Valve shock absorbers in its prototype form. These advanced dampers offer superior off-road capabilities and allow for over 13 inches of movement in both the front and rear wheels.

Chevrolet’s engineers will work closely with the Hall Racing team during the Mint 400 race, collecting practical data to enhance future car models, performance components, and accessories. As Scott Bell, Vice President of Chevrolet, puts it, racing offers the toughest test for Chevrolet engineering. Chad Hall agrees, stating that insights derived from racing significantly contribute to the development of vehicles that consumers can purchase.
