Daddy Yankee files lawsuit against ex-wife for $250 million in business damages

As a passionate cinephile, I find myself sharing an intriguing piece of news: Daddy Yankee is once more engaging the legal system, but this time it’s not about personal matters; instead, it’s a business-related dispute with his ex-wife, Mireddys González.

Based on court papers examined by The Times, Reggaeton artist Ramón L. Ayala Rodríguez, also known as the reggaetonero, filed a lawsuit this week in Puerto Rico’s courts. He accused González and her sister Ayeicha González Castellanos of breaching their fiduciary responsibilities, contractual obligations, and caused him harm.

The legal action alleges that the sisters withdrew $100 million from the bank accounts of two Yankee companies, Los Cangris Inc. and El Cartel Records, which appears to be an effort to sell off assets ahead of a court-ordered transfer.

Additionally, it’s claimed that this duo concealed details and deleted crucial emails related to their businesses, which were linked to the two companies, just prior to their departure from these organizations.

Daddy Yankee officially ended his long-term marriage with Mireddys González, lasting almost three decades, following unsuccessful attempts at preserving their union.

The lawsuit alleges that Mireddys and Ayeicha Gonzalez Castellanos amassed more power than was permitted and, collectively, made hasty, self-centered decisions that harmed both the companies and Yankee, in his individual capacity as well as his artist persona. They failed to provide an honest account of their actions, ignored corporate formalities and legal requirements, made financially reckless choices, neglected proper accounting management, and improperly excluded Mr. Ayala Rodriguez from decision-making processes.

Furthermore, the legal team representing Yankee argues that González granted an unapproved power of attorney to Puerto Rican music producer Rafael “Raphy” Pina, authorizing him to manage the sale of Yankee’s musical catalog. They also asserted that the sisters allowed Pina and his Mr. Soldout company to disburse $27 million for the expenses related to Yankee’s La Última Vuelta concert tour, with Pina receiving 30% of the earnings (even though he was in prison at the time).

The court records indicate that carelessness and poor judgment exhibited by the sisters resulted in financial losses amounting to millions of dollars for Yankee.

Per the lawsuit, Yankee’s team is requesting at least $250 million in compensation.

In 2023, the rapper known for “Gasolina”, decided to leave the stage to focus more on his Christian beliefs and shared the news of his separation from González through an Instagram story in December.

At the conclusion of his farewell tour’s last performance, Daddy Yankee informed the crowd in Puerto Rico that he intends to devote his future life to Christianity.

Yankee stated, after over twenty years of marriage and numerous attempts to save it, he recently received a divorce petition from Mireddys. In Spanish, he wrote this. He expressed his respect for her decision and emphasized that their family remains their utmost concern. The rapper has three adult children, two of whom are shared with González.

He acknowledged that these are challenging times, yet he recognized they’re a part of his journey. He suggested embracing the situation and moving forward.

Yankee said his Instagram post would be the only statement he would make about his divorce.

Regarding Mireddys González, my client has great admiration and is focusing on maintaining and safeguarding their privacy with regards to their marriage and private matters that only they are fully aware of,” the attorney said in an interview with Rolling Stone in December. “For quite some time now, attempts have been made to resolve the disagreements between my client and someone else, but these efforts were not successful.
