Old Spider-Man 4 Synopsis Fools Movie Theaters & MCU Fans About Brand New Day

A previously leaked plot summary for Spider-Man 4 is getting attention, and it seems earlier reports misled both Marvel fans and cinemas.

How is the old Spider-Man 4 synopsis confusing fans?

The Regal Cinemas website describes Spider-Man: Brand New Day as a story where Peter Parker attempts to return to a normal life and focus on college after a devastating event. However, when a new danger threatens his friends, he’s forced to become Spider-Man once more, joining forces with a surprising partner to keep them safe.

A recent claim indicated that Spider-Man 4 would happen after the events of Avengers: Doomsday. However, Marvel and Sony haven’t verified the information originally found on Regal’s website. It turns out the synopsis was old, appearing in a 2024 issue of Production Weekly. Back then, Avengers: Doomsday was planned to be released before Spider-Man: Brand New Day, meaning Spider-Man 4 was, according to the original schedule, meant to come out afterward.

Disney has pushed back the release of Avengers: Doomsday to December 18, 2026. Because the movie’s plot summary wasn’t updated after the delay, incorrect information is currently showing up on some movie theater websites.

When the trailer was released in March, Marvel and Sony shared details about the new movie. The story picks up four years after the events of No Way Home, with Peter now living as an adult completely on his own, having intentionally removed himself from the lives of his friends and family. He continues to fight crime in New York City, but no one recognizes him as Spider-Man. As the challenges he faces grow, Peter begins to physically change, putting his life at risk. Simultaneously, a new wave of unusual crimes emerges, leading to a powerful new enemy.

Tom Holland is back as Spider-Man in the new film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He’s joined by Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo.

I’m really excited for the next Spider-Man movie, ‘Brand New Day’! It’s being directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, and the script is by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. Mark your calendars, because it swings into theaters on July 31, 2026!
