Death in Paradise star’s “must watch” crime drama that “hits all the right notes” confirms UK debut

Fans in the UK can now look forward to seeing Joséphine Jobert, known for her role in Death in Paradise, in the Canadian crime drama Saint-Pierre. A release date has been confirmed!

The TV series first aired on CBC in Canada over a year ago, and now it’s coming to the UK’s U&Alibi channel on Thursday, April 23rd at 8 PM.

Fans on IMDb are calling Saint-Pierre, currently two seasons in, a “must-watch.” The episode “Kill Lil'” is particularly popular, with viewers saying it’s exceptionally well-done.

The show centers on police officer Donny Fitzpatrick, played by Allan Hawco (known from Jack Ryan), and Deputy Chief Geneviève Archambault (Jobert) as they investigate murders in the isolated islands of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon.

Okay, so the story kicks off with me playing as Donny ‘Fitz’ Fitzpatrick, a police inspector in Newfoundland. I get a little too close to uncovering some shady stuff a politician is up to, and as punishment, I get shipped off to work in Saint-Pierre et Miquelon – this tiny little French territory way out in the Atlantic. It’s basically a forced exile, and that’s where the game really starts!

When Fitz arrives, it throws Deputy Chief Genevieve ‘Arch’ Archambault’s life into chaos. Arch, originally from Paris, has her own hidden reasons for being in Saint-Pierre. It seems destined that these two experienced officers – who have very different styles of police work – will have to team up to solve some unusual and thrilling crimes.

These islands appear to be a charming getaway, but beneath the beautiful surface lies a dark criminal underworld that thrives in such peaceful places. Initially, Arch and Fitz distrust each other, but they quickly realize they work best as a team.

During an interview on the show The Social CTV, Jobert expressed her strong affection for her character, saying she was “obsessed” with her.

It’s amazing when a character feels fully formed from the start. This character is tough, self-reliant, and brave – everything I admire. I really hope she inspires other women with her strength, because I absolutely love her.

It might sound strange, but playing this strong character has actually helped me in my own life. It made me realize I can be that strong, and she’s inspired me every day. She’s truly had a positive impact on my life.

Jobert made his final appearance in Death in Paradise during the season 13 finale. He reprised his role as DS Florence Cassell for what would be Ralf Little’s last season as the main detective.

Detective Inspector Neville Parker and Florence ended the season with a romantic getaway, setting sail to explore a new beginning and cautiously navigate their blossoming relationship.

Saint-Pierre will debut on Thursday 23 April at 8pm on U&Alibi.

You can watch Death in Paradise, as well as its spin-offs Beyond Paradise and Return to Paradise, on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
