Kylie Jenner’s Shocking Seat Swap at the Oscars Sparks Wild Fan Theories

Fans were abuzz as Kylie Jenner discreetly changed her seat right before the announcement of Timothée Chalamet’s Oscar category.

At the 2025 Oscars held at the Dolby Theatre, the cosmetics tycoon stood prominently next to the actor portraying Willy Wonka, who was nominated for Best Actor for his role as Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown.

However, it was observed by astute viewers that last year’s victor, Cillian Murphy from the Oppenheimer cast, who appeared on stage to announce this year’s champion, was not accompanied by Timothée as previously seen.

That night on the red carpet, Nicole Flender, his mother, had previously shone alongside him.

However, as Nicole found herself poised for an emotionally stirring triumphant moment, she unexpectedly became a spectator, witnessing her son’s defeat to Adrien Brody in the competition known as The Brutalist.

It’s quite possible that when Kylie moved to a different row, she intentionally did so to allow Timothée and his mother to fully enjoy the moment if he happened to win.

‘Kylie swapped seats with Nicole for this category just in case Timothée won,’ one fan tweeted. 

A different viewer posted, ‘Who else noticed they switched Kylie Jenner with Timothee’s mom.’ 

Another commented, ‘They placed Timothée prominently, shifted Kylie aside to allow his mother to join him, and then presented the award to Adrien Brody at the Oscars.’

Another person added, ‘They replaced Kylie with Timothee’s mother just before the Best Actor award was announced… wow!’ or simply, ‘They substituted Kylie for Timothee’s mom at the last minute for the Best Actor award… fascinating!’

Although Kylie was seated behind Timothée, she still made sure to give him a kiss after his loss.

Timothée reclined slightly while Kylie extended her arms across the chair, not letting a physical divide stop them from exchanging a loving kiss.

Although many fans on X/Twitter were thrilled about the couple attending the Oscars together, there were some who argued that Jenner being present at the event might negatively impact Chalamet’s chances of winning the Best Actor nomination.

‘Everyone saying he’s going to lose because he brought her,’ wrote one X/Twitter user.

‘He goin home empty handed,’ another person suggested.

‘Ohhhhh he’s losing that Oscar,’ a third user said, while someone else wrote: ‘He’s not winning.’

It appeared they attributed their misfortune to the so-called “Kardashian effect,” a popular internet hypothesis suggesting that any man in a romantic relationship with a Kardashian-Jenner sister experiences a decline in reputation or success.

One fan commented, expressing their hope that the rumored “Kardashian curse” might not be true anymore, given the pictures of Chalamet and Jenner together at the Oscars.

‘They told him don’t bring Kylie she got that Kardashian curse,’ another person wrote.

The excursion signified the first time Kylie was seen publicly following the tragic passing of her cherished hairdresser, Jesus Guerrero.

On the previous Sunday, Kylie largely consoled relatives of Guerrero, hence Timothée accompanied his mother Nicole Flender to the SAG Awards where he bagged the best actor award for A Complete Unknown.

Ahead of the ceremony, Kylie’s glam team shared a snap of the beauty, with a tribute to Jesus.  

Jenner’s longtime makeup artist Ariel Tejada shared on Instagram today, ‘I truly missed your presence today, as it was a difficult day. Yet, I am well aware of how thrilled you were about Ky going to the Oscars.’

As your energy pulsed through us today, I couldn’t help but feel its presence. I hope we managed to make you proud, Guerrero. Our admiration for you is eternal.

Kylie and Timothée have been together for nearly two years, sparking relationship rumors as early as April 2023, when it was noticed that her car was often parked at his residence in Beverly Hills.

They initially debuted publicly during Beyoncé’s high-profile birthday concert in September 2023. Footage was widely shared showing them affectionately embracing and kissing, visible to the audience members.

The couple made their award season debut at the 81st Golden Globes last January.

At the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, the 97th Academy Awards will celebrate the finest movies of 2024, with a glamorous event filled with A-list stars taking place on that date.

61-year-old Conan O’Brien made his first appearance as the host of the Oscars, humorously mentioning that he had accepted the role just to receive an invitation.
