ITV Star Slams Demi Moore’s Oscar-Nominated Film During Live Oscars Coverage

2025 Oscars coverage by ITV sparked anger among viewers, as remarks made by a guest about a nominated movie didn’t sit well with the audience.

As a devoted admirer, I had the privilege of being part of an extraordinary event, where I, alongside esteemed personalities like actor Jason Isaacs, journalist and broadcaster Mariella Frostrup, and film expert and presenter Elle Osili-Wood, joined Jonathan Ross on a panel.

As the night unfolded at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, Jonathan and his fellow actors chatted about The Substance from their base in the UK recording studio.

The movie that’s previously claimed a Golden Globe trophy is now competing for the Best Picture accolade, marking Demi Moore’s initial Oscar nomination at the age of 62.

Instead, Mariella chose not to give a high rating to the critically-acclaimed movie, expressing her opinion that it lacks significant value.

She mentioned that ‘Substance’ might be quite peculiar. For those who appreciate gory themes, they would find it intriguing. However, if one doesn’t enjoy such content, there won’t be much appeal left for them.

The item is placed there due to the strong feeling that it’s significant. It revolves around aging and masochism, serving as a prominent feature in the movie lineup but lacking substantial content below it.

‘I feel that the story of knitting doesn’t delve into anything it promises to challenge, yet Demi is undeniably stunningly beautiful. To be honest, if I looked like her without any clothes on, I would be constantly tempted to go bare.’

If you delve into it, it becomes completely nonsensical. It’s not a significant movie when it comes to its message.

During the early awards on the evening, The Substance took home a gong for best hair and makeup.

Viewers rushed to X – formerly known as Twitter – to slam Mariella for her comments.

It appears they disliked their criticism of the content, yet they are not able to identify a good film when it is shown.”)

‘Get this blonde bobbed lady off this sofa. hating the substance AND anora? have some FUN;

It seems this woman fails to appreciate the horror genre, claiming that it lacks a meaningful message. #ITVOscars

A woman with short blonde hair, apparently, misconstrued Anora’s intentions and intentionally used a labyrinth-like gaze to express her thoughts about its unavoidable nature…#ITVOscars.

or

The lady with a bobbed blonde hairstyle seems to have misinterpreted Anora and employed a gaze reminiscent of a maze to convey the idea that it’s impossible to escape from it…#ITVOscars.

At the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, the 97th Academy Awards will be celebrating the top movies from 2024, with a glamorous event graced by many A-list celebrities.

61-year-old Conan O’Brien will be stepping into the role of Oscar host for the first time, following his lighthearted comment: “I accepted the hosting gig just to get an invitation.

2021’s awards event features a particularly unpredictable landscape across numerous prominent categories such as Best Picture and the majority of acting categories.

This year, Emilia Pérez is at the forefront of nominations boasting 13 nods across various categories such as best picture, leading actress for Karla Sofía Gascón, supporting actress for Zoe Saldaña, directing (for Jacques Audiard), adapted screenplay, and original song.

In this version, Gascón portrays the main character, a former Mexican drug lord who undergoes a transformation into a transgender woman and stages her own demise to reemerge as a positive influence on society. Meanwhile, Saldaña takes on the role of a lawyer with questionable ethics, assisting in creating Gascón’s new identity.

In the end, The Brutalist came in second, boasting a total of 10 nominations. These categories ranged from Best Picture to Director (recognizing Brady Corbet’s work), Actor (highlighting Adrien Brody’s performance), Supporting Actor (honoring Guy Pearce), Supporting Actress (felicitating Felicity Jones), and Original Screenplay.

In a new interpretation, Brody portrays László Tóth, a Hungarian architect who is Jewish and manages to emigrate to America after enduring the Holocaust. This grand historical narrative focuses on Tóth’s endeavor to bring his artistic aspirations to life, despite facing obstacles posed by his affluent patron (Pearce), who has more trivial ambitions.

In the nominations, “Wicked” matched a total of 10, with nods in several categories. These include Best Picture, Actress (recognizing Cynthia Erivo’s performance), and Supporting Actress (acknowledging Ariana Grande’s role).

The hit musical under consideration is a reinterpretation of just the initial portion of the same title’s original musical, serving as a prequel to “The Wizard of Oz.” In this version, Erivo portrays Elphaba, destined to become the Wicked Witch of the West, while Grande takes on the role of Galinda Upland, who transforms into Glinda the Good.

Among the other contenders for best picture are Anora, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Dune: Chapter Two, I’m Still Here, The Nickel Boys, and The Substance.

At the Screen Actors Guild Awards, which are closely followed as a strong indicator for the Oscars, Timothée Chalamet unexpectedly won in the category of Best Actor in a Leading Role, a week before the Oscars, for his performance in the Bob Dylan biopic titled “A Complete Unknown.

Before that victory, it appeared that Brody was the front-runner given his success at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards, BAFTAs, Golden Globes, and Critics Choice Movie Awards by taking home the best actor accolades at each of those events.

Ralph Fiennes continues to persistently vie for the part of a British Cardinal, who is grappling with preventing a mysterious papal election from turning into a contest and drama.

As a die-hard admirer, I can’t help but boast about the groundbreaking film that’s been sweeping smaller award ceremonies and festivals left and right! The exceptional performance of Mr. Fiennes has earned him multiple accolades, which he graciously accepted not just once, but on numerous occasions. And let’s not forget, the entire acting ensemble has also garnered a plethora of awards that this talented group richly deserves!

In the competition, the top three contenders find themselves vying with Colman Domingo for his role in Sing Sing, as well as Sebastian Stan for his portrayal of a young Donald Trump in The Apprentice.

In the category of best actress, there isn’t a definite favorite yet. Demi Moore has garnered praise for her remarkable return to acting in the satirical-body horror film “The Substance.” This performance earned her the title of best actress from both the Critics Choice Awards and the Golden Globes, as well as recognition from several critics’ groups.

As a devoted admirer, winning the SAG Award a week prior to the Oscars indicates that I might be well-positioned to secure the Oscar, given my initial nomination.

Actress Mikey Madison from the show “Anora Star,” who portrays a grown-up dancer who unexpectedly ties the knot with the son of a wealthy Russian businessman, received much praise and recognition from various critics’ groups at the start of the series.

Her odds greatly improved following her triumph at the BAFTA as Best Lead Actress, a success that was further bolstered by her win at the Independent Spirit Awards in the gender-neutral lead acting category.

Initially, Actress Emilia Pérez seemed likely to win an award, but her chances diminished significantly following the unearthing of old, offensive tweets containing racist and Islamophobic content. These controversial posts, which had been previously unnoticed, were later translated into English and brought to public attention.

Since her posts became public, Gascón has been absent from award ceremonies. Despite some insincere apologies, it is said that Netflix no longer covers her travel and lodging expenses for these events, although a source claims she intends to go to the Oscars nonetheless.

Prior to the uproar, her nomination was widely regarded as groundbreaking because she became the first openly transgender woman ever nominated in the Best Actress category.

Among the other candidates, there are two noteworthy contenders: Cynthia Erivo, famed for her role in Wicked, who hasn’t won any significant awards yet; and Fernanda Torres, who plays a leading role in the historical drama I’m Still Here. However, Torres found herself in a sticky situation when footage of her wearing blackface from a 17-year-old comedy sketch on a Brazilian TV series reemerged in January.

Nominated in the category of Best Supporting Actress are Monica Barbaro for her role in A Complete Unknown, Ariana Grande for Wicked, Felicity Jones for The Brutalist, Isabella Rossellini for Conclave, and Zoe Saldaña for Emilia Pérez.

Currently, Saldaña is looking like the clear frontrunner following an impressive series of victories at the Golden Globes, British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA), Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards, and Critics Choice Awards.

However, certain initial honors had voting timelines that ended before the Gascón controversy arose, possibly affecting Emilia Pérez’s chances negatively among voters who might have been disenchanted with her entirely due to this issue.

Predicting the winner in the “supporting actor” category appears to be quite straightforward this year, given Kieran Culkin’s consistent victories for his role in “A Real Pain,” making him the clear front-runner.

1. Among the other nominees, Yura Borisov is up for Anora, Edward Norton is nominated for A Complete Unknown, Guy Pearce is in the running for The Brutalist, and Jeremy Strong is nominated for The Apprentice.

2. Alongside these other nominations, Yura Borisov has been nominated for Anora, Edward Norton is up for A Complete Unknown, Guy Pearce is a contender for The Brutalist, and Jeremy Strong is in the running for The Apprentice.

3. Additionally, Yura Borisov, Edward Norton, Guy Pearce, and Jeremy Strong are all nominated in various categories: Anora (Yura Borisov), A Complete Unknown (Edward Norton), The Brutalist (Guy Pearce), and The Apprentice (Jeremy Strong).

4. Furthermore, Yura Borisov, Edward Norton, Guy Pearce, and Jeremy Strong are all in the running for different roles: Anora (Yura Borisov), A Complete Unknown (Edward Norton), The Brutalist (Guy Pearce), and The Apprentice (Jeremy Strong).

5. In addition to this nominee, Yura Borisov, Edward Norton, Guy Pearce, and Jeremy Strong are also in the running for their respective roles: Anora (Yura Borisov), A Complete Unknown (Edward Norton), The Brutalist (Guy Pearce), and The Apprentice (Jeremy Strong).

Initially, Emilia Pérez appeared to be the front-runner among the nominated pictures. However, Gascon’s controversial posts may jeopardize her chances of winning.

Or,

Emilia Pérez was previously viewed as the favorite for the picture nomination. But, Gascon’s offensive social media posts could potentially undermine this position.

Anora, the film that won the Palme d’Or, received additional support in its Oscar bid after winning Best Picture awards at both the Directors Guild of America Awards and the Producers Guild of America Awards. These two accolades are often seen as reliable indicators of success at the Oscars by industry experts. Furthermore, its win at the Independent Spirit Awards also contributed positively to its chances.

It appears that the top contender for the Best Director award could come down to a tight competition involving three filmmakers: Sean Baker (Anora), Brady Corbet (The Brutalist), and Jacques Audiard, who directed Emilia Pérez.

As a lifestyle expert, I’m excited to share my thoughts on this year’s original song nominees! Two captivating tunes hail from Emilia Pérez – El Mal and Mi Camino. We also have Never Too Late by none other than Elton John, a track from the documentary bearing the same name about his life. Like a Bird from Sing Sing is another noteworthy entry, and lastly, The Journey, the latest composition by Diane Warren. These songs are sure to make an impact!

7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT marks the start of the Academy Awards extravaganza, an event I’ve been eagerly anticipating! You can catch it live on ABC, but I’m beyond thrilled about this opportunity to watch my favorite stars shine from the comfort of my own home.

People who subscribe to premium services such as Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, AT&T TV, and FuboTV can likewise stream the event live.
