Doja Cat Botches Diamonds Are Forever at Oscars: ‘Who Booked This?’
At the 2025 Oscars on Sunday, Doja Cat received widespread criticism for a perceived subpar rendition of the classic James Bond theme, Diamonds Are Forever.
At a major awards event in Hollywood, the 29-year-old rapper famously recognized for her work, daringly performed Shirley Bassey’s iconic anthem. However, her interpretation of the 1971 classic drew criticism. She shared the stage with Lisa, aged 37, who sang Live and Let Die, as well as Raye, 27, who delivered Skyfall.
A fan commented that Doja Cat seemed to have trouble hitting some of the higher notes, with their remark being: “Doja Cat sounds like a distressed cat.
Others wrote: ‘WOW DOJA CAT SOUNDED TERRIBLE HELP
‘WHY THE F**K DO THEY HAVE DOJA CAT SINGNNG DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER….WHO BOOK THIS
‘Doja Cat that was actually a horrible vocal performance what the fck were you thinking

‘Doja Cat does not have the vocal range to do that song justice tbh
‘Not Doja Cat obliterating Diamonds Are Forever in this random Bond performance.’
Others commended the artist for her strong singing performance and hailed her as a queen for choosing a slow, emotional song instead of a fast-paced rap number.
At the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, the prestigious 97th Academy Awards will be recognizing the outstanding movies from 2024, with a glamorous event taking place.
61-year-old comedian Conan O’Brien is stepping into the role of Oscars host for the first time, having quipped that he accepted the job just to receive an invitation.
2021’s award event features a remarkably unpredictable landscape across several prominent categories such as Best Picture and the majority of the acting nominations.
This year, Emilia Pérez is heading the nominations with a total of 13, among them are categories such as Best Picture, Best Actress for Karla Sofía Gascón, Best Supporting Actress for Zoe Saldaña, Best Director for Jacques Audiard, Adapted Screenplay, and Original Song.
In this rephrased version: The lead role is filled by Gascón, portraying a former Mexican drug lord who transitioned into a woman and staged her own death for a fresh start as a socially beneficial figure. Saldaña takes on the part of a lawyer with questionable morals, assisting in establishing Gascón’s new identity.
As a die-hard admirer, I can’t help but share my excitement over the astounding achievement of “The Brutalist” at the recent awards! It soared to second place with an impressive ten nominations! Among these, it was recognized in several categories: Best Picture, Director (for the brilliant Brady Corbet), Actor (the legendary Adrien Brody), Supporting Actors (Guy Pearce and Felicity Jones), and Original Screenplay. Simply incredible!

In this adaptation, Brody portrays László Tóth, a Hungarian architect of Jewish descent who emigrates to America following the Holocaust. The sweeping historical narrative chronicles Tóth’s struggle to actualize his artistic ambitions despite clashing with the selfish whims of his affluent patron (Pearce).
In the competition, Wicked earned a total of 10 nominations across various categories. These included nods for Best Picture, Actress (for Cynthia Erivo), and Supporting Actress (for Ariana Grande).
The highly successful stage production is a retelling of just the initial portion of the musical with the same title. This creative prequel to “The Wizard of Oz” features Erivo as Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West, and Grande as Galinda Upland, who later transforms into Glinda the Good.
Among the contenders for the top picture awards are Anora, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Dune: Chapter Two, I’m Still Here, The Nickel Boys, and The Substance.

At the Screen Actors Guild Awards, held a week prior to the Oscars, there was an unexpected twist in the closely followed competition for Best Actor in a Leading Role. Timothée Chalamet, who starred in the Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown,” surprisingly won the award.
Before that victory, it appeared that Brody had a strong chance of winning, as he had already claimed the title for Best Actor at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards, the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs), the Golden Globe Awards, and the Critics’ Choice Movie Awards.
Ralph Fiennes persistently maintains his position as a potential candidate for portraying a British Cardinal, who’s grappling with preventing a clandestine papal election from turning chaotic and filled with rivalry and mystery.
The highly praised movie has garnered several acting victories for Fiennes at lesser-known events and gatherings, in addition to numerous ensemble acting accolades. Notably, Fiennes has received these awards on more than one occasion when accepting them on behalf of the entire cast.

Among the top three contenders, there is competition from Colman Domingo for his role in Sing Sing, as well as Sebastian Stan for his portrayal of a younger Donald Trump in The Apprentice.
In my professional opinion as a lifestyle expert, the race for the title of ‘Best Actress’ is wide open this year, with no clear favorite yet emerging. However, Demi Moore has certainly made a strong case for herself with her outstanding performance in the satirical body-horror film, “The Substance.” This compelling portrayal earned her accolades such as the Best Actress awards from both the Critics Choice Awards and the Golden Globes, as well as recognition from several esteemed critics’ organizations. Simply put, Moore’s comeback performance in this film is not to be overlooked.
However, winning at the Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG) a week prior to the Oscars implies that she might be well-positioned to win the Oscar this year, as it’s her first nomination.
Actress Mikey Madison, known for her role as an impulsive adult dancer who unexpectedly weds the son of a powerful Russian businessman, received widespread praise and recognition from numerous critic groups at the beginning of the series.
After securing a BAFTA for best lead actress, her prospects greatly improved. This was further boosted when she won the Independent Spirit Award in the category of gender-neutral lead performance.
Initially, Emilia Perez and Karla Sofia Gascon were strong contenders for the award. However, her chances took a hit when she faced widespread criticism following the discovery of offensive tweets containing racist and Islamophobic remarks, some of which had been posted quite recently and hadn’t previously drawn attention, once they were translated into English and publicized.
Since those posts surfaced, Gascón has been absent from award ceremonies. After making several insincere apologies, it is said that Netflix decided to no longer cover her travel and accommodation expenses for these events. However, according to a source, she intends to go to the Oscars regardless.
Previously, her nomination was considered groundbreaking because she became the first openly transgender woman to be nominated for Best Actress.

Among the other contenders is Cynthia Erivo, famed for her role in Wicked, who hasn’t won any significant accolades yet. Additionally, there’s Fernanda Torres, star of the historical drama I’m Still Here. However, she found herself in a contentious situation when footage from a 17-year-old blackface comedy sketch of hers on a Brazilian TV series reemerged in January.
In the category of Best Supporting Actress, the nominees are: Monica Barbaro for A Complete Unknown, Ariana Grande for Wicked, Felicity Jones for The Brutalist, Isabella Rossellini for Conclave, and Zoe Saldaña for Emilia Pérez.
Or simply:
Nominated in the category of Best Supporting Actress are Monica Barbaro (A Complete Unknown), Ariana Grande (Wicked), Felicity Jones (The Brutalist), Isabella Rossellini (Conclave), and Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Pérez).
Saldaña seems to have secured the front-runner position following a series of victories at the Golden Globes, BAFTA Awards, SAG Awards, and Critics Choice Awards.
However, certain initial honors concluded their voting phases before the controversy regarding Gascón emerged, possibly affecting the votes of those who might have been disenchanted with Emilia Pérez entirely due to this issue.
It appears that the category of best supporting actor is the most likely to forecast, as Kieran Culkin’s consistent victories for his role in “A Real Pain” have made him the clear front-runner.
Among the other contenders are Yura Borisov for Anora, Edward Norton for A Complete Stranger, Guy Pearce for The Harsh One, and Jeremy Strong for The Trainee.
Initially, Emilia Pérez appeared to be the frontrunner among the nominated photos. However, Gascon’s controversial online posts could jeopardize her winning prospects.
Anora, the movie that won the Palme d’Or, gained additional momentum with victories for Best Picture at both the Directors Guild of America Awards and the Producers Guild of America Awards. These awards are often seen as reliable indicators of Oscar success by experts in the awards season, and its win at the Independent Spirit Awards only added to its growing buzz.

It appears that the top director category is shaping up to be a competition among just three contenders: Sean Baker from Anora, Brady Corbet of The Brutalist, and Jacques Audiard as directed by Emilia Pérez.
2021’s original song category showcases two songs by Emilia Pérez: El Mal and Mi Camino, the new Elton John song titled Never Too Late, which hails from the documentary bearing the same name about him, a tune called Like a Bird from Sing Sing, and Diane Warren’s latest piece, The Journey.
The Academy Awards ceremony starts at 7 p.m. Eastern Time (ET) or 4 p.m. Pacific Time (PT). You can watch it live on ABC television network, and for the very first time, you’ll also be able to stream it on Hulu.
Those with subscriptions to premium streaming services such as Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, AT&T TV, and FuboTV are able to watch the event live as well.
