As an ardent admirer, let me share my excitement: The upcoming blockbuster musical isn’t just any adaptation; it’s a fresh retelling, a captivating prequel to the classic tale of “The Wizard of Oz.” In this new version, Cynthia Erivo breathes life into Elphaba, our future Wicked Witch of the West, while Ariana Grande enchants us as Galinda Upland, who will one day be known as Glinda the Good. I can hardly wait to see these two talented stars bring these iconic characters to life!

Among the other nominees for the top picture awards are Anora, A Complete Unknown, Conclave, Dune: Chapter Two, I’m Still Here, The Nickel Boys, and The Substance.

At the Screen Actors Guild Awards, Timothée Chalamet’s unexpected victory in the top acting category for his portrayal of Bob Dylan in “A Complete Unknown” caused quite a stir, only a week before the Oscars.

Before that victory, it appeared that Brody was a strong contender following his wins at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards, the BAFTAs, the Golden Globes, and the Critics Choice Movie Awards for Best Actor.

Ralph Fiennes continues to persistently vie for his part as a British Cardinal, who is determined to prevent a clandestine papal election from turning into a contest and plotting.

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but gush over the fact that the critically acclaimed film we all love has been showered with recognition! Jesse Fiennes, our beloved star, has bagged multiple victories at smaller ceremonies and festivals. Not just him, but our incredible ensemble cast has also garnered numerous awards, which Fiennes has graciously accepted on more than one occasion on behalf of us all. It’s truly a testament to the power of collective talent!

In the competition, those three contenders find themselves going head-to-head with Colman Domingo for his role in Sing Sing, as well as Sebastian Stan, who plays a younger version of Donald Trump in The Apprentice.

In the category of top actress, there isn’t a standout favorite yet. Demi Moore has garnered high praise for her powerful return to acting in the satirical horror film titled The Substance. Initially, Emilia Pérez looked likely to win the award, but her chances were significantly diminished following a wave of criticism after old, controversial tweets containing racist and Islamophobic content surfaced in English translation, drawing widespread attention.

Since those posts were made public, Gascón has chosen not to attend award ceremonies. Additionally, there’s Fernanda Torres, star of the historical drama “I’m Still Here.” However, she faced criticism recently when a clip from a 17-year-old comedy sketch on a Brazilian TV series showed her wearing blackface. This controversy emerged in January.

Among the contenders in the “Best Supporting Actress” category are Monica Barbaro (for A Complete Unknown), Ariana Grande (for Wicked), Felicity Jones (for The Brutalist), Isabella Rossellini (for Conclave), and Zoe Saldaña (for Emilia Pérez).

It seems that Saldaña is currently the front-runner, having secured several victories at the Golden Globes, BAFTA Awards, SAG Awards, and Critics Choice Awards in a row.

However, certain initial accolades had voting timelines that ended before the Gascón controversy emerged, possibly affecting Emilia Pérez’s support from voters who might have been negatively influenced by this issue altogether.

It appears that predicting the winner in the category for best supporting actor is relatively straightforward this year, with Kieran Culkin garnering multiple victories for his role in “A Real Pain,” making him the clear front-runner.

Additionally nominated are Yura Borisov for the role of Anora, Edward Norton for A Complete Unknown, Guy Pearce for The Brutalist, and Jeremy Strong for The Apprentice.

Initially, Emilia Pérez appeared to be the front-runner among the nominated photos. However, Gascon’s controversial posts could potentially harm her chances of winning.

Anora, the film that won the Palme d’Or, saw a late surge in support with victories for Best Picture at both the Directors Guild of America Awards and the Producers Guild of America Awards. These wins are often seen as strong indicators of Oscar success by awards analysts, and its win at the Independent Spirit Awards added to its momentum.

As a devoted film enthusiast, it appears that the top contender for the Best Director category is shaping up to be a fierce competition among three talented individuals: Sean Baker (Anora), Brady Corbet (The Brutalist), and Jacques Audiard (Emilia Pérez).
