Babymonster discusses debut world tour, working with G-Dragon and the success of album ‘Drip’
Apologies for the delay, we truly appreciate your patience,” politely expressed the K-pop band BabyMonster, huddled together in a boardroom at the YG Entertainment headquarters in Seoul.
As one who’s part of our dynamic seven-piece girl band (me, Ruka, Pharita, Asa, Ahyeon, Rami, and Rora), we found ourselves in an unwelcome dance with gridlock traffic on our way from rehearsals straight to this interview.
Members of Babymonster are putting a lot of effort into rehearsals as they get ready for their first global tour, titled “Hello Monsters.” This tour will make a stop at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles this coming Sunday.
The team gleamed with anticipation upon contemplating their inaugural visit to California to interact with their Monstiez – their fan base – for the first time. Moreover, Rami conveyed his immense gratitude at being granted the chance to grace the stage of a prestigious venue like the Kia Forum, following in the illustrious footsteps of renowned K-pop artists such as aespa, Suga from BTS, and Blackpink.
The participants from Babymonster were keeping quiet regarding the details of their forthcoming performance in L.A., aiming to keep it exciting and unique, ensuring that each show would offer a fresh, enjoyable experience for the audience.
Regardless of their youth, particularly Chiquita who was just 14 when she first appeared on stage, this group has consistently projected a self-assured and elegant image during their ascent to fame.
As a passionate K-pop enthusiast, I found myself united with other music lovers hailing from diverse corners of Asia – South Korea, Japan, and Thailand – all with the shared dream of becoming part of the sensational group, Babymonster. We embarked on this thrilling journey, braving the intense audition process to make our mark in the dynamic world of K-pop.
Pharita shared, “We joined this company at a very young age, eager to contribute. The weight of responsibility was heavy, yet there were moments of joy under the stress. We relished the opportunity for self-growth and pursuing our objectives, and we feel content with our current situation.
In just under a year since their initial release in April 2024, BabyMonster, this up-and-coming musical act, has soared to fame and captivated audiences worldwide with their self-titled mini-album.
Rami shared that it’s barely been a year since our first release, the mini-album ‘Babymons7er,’ but we’re overjoyed by how things are progressing and deeply appreciative for the outpouring of affection we’ve received right from the start.
This self-named EP showcased the group’s adaptability and powerful performances, featuring songs such as “Sheesh,” “Like That,” and “Batter Up.
Following the release of their first studio album “Drip,” which came out in November 2024, the team continued to expand on their initial achievement.
In time spent conversing with Babymonster, it’s almost certain you’ll hear the term “swagger.” This concept lies at the core of all their activities – from creating music to selecting wardrobe, and delivering stage performances – they embody it gracefully and naturally.
The hit song “Drip” embodies an air of confidence, swiftly earning favor among fans due to its catchy tunes and boastful lyrics like “I could be the G.O.A.T.” According to Babymonster, this tune perfectly reflects the image they aim to portray, showcasing their authentic selves through a highly energetic track.

The song, boasting nearly 120 million plays on Spotify all by itself, served as a significant milestone for the band, demonstrating their versatility even more due to an unanticipated collaboration with the renowned K-pop star, G-Dragon.
The hip-hop artist known as Bigbang – who just dropped his debut full-length album after a 12-year hiatus – has been a loyal supporter of Babymonster. He attended the group’s live show in Seoul last October and even lent a hand to their hit single “Drip” by contributing to it.

In her own words, Rora stated, “We deeply admire G-Dragon as a senior figure, and we’re eager to express our heartfelt appreciation for the assistance he extended during the creation of ‘Drip.’ G-Dragon was instrumental in sending us demos, experimenting with various tones, and ultimately helping us explore the hip-hop and swagger vibe that Babymonster felt suited us best.
Initially, there was no rap segment in our song. However, upon receiving a demo from G-Dragon, we experimented with the lyrics, which ultimately highlighted his cool, confident style.
During my conversation with Babymonster, it soon became clear just how driven they were in their artistic journey. Their motivation stems from established artists, those who debuted prior to them, whom they admire greatly. They frequently study the performances of groups like 2NE1 and Blackpink as sources of inspiration.
Besides carefully reviewing their previous works, they keep track of their development by doing so, learning from old experiences, which helps them maintain progression as artists.

Ahyon revealed that during concerts, they become completely engrossed in the present, savoring the atmosphere and the audience’s energy. “It was a truly joyful period for us, and it’s crucial for artists to experience this joy on stage. [We could] freely express ourselves and resonate with that vibe and energy.” They remain dedicated to growing from each encounter and aim to offer even more captivating performances for their audience in the future.
Baby Monster continues to be one of the foremost K-pop groups emerging from the fifth generation, which debuted post-2023. They aspire to emulate their label companions Blackpink by disseminating Korean culture globally.
Rora expressed her delight at witnessing Korean culture’s global expansion, attributing it to the persistent efforts of our elders over the past several years. Babymonster aims to maintain this energy and extend the reach of K-pop and Korean culture worldwide.
