Fans Gather to Honor Gene Hackman at His Beloved Santa Fe Restaurant After His Passing

Supporters of the deceased actor, Gene Hackman, have paid tribute to him by visiting one of his favorite eateries in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Hackman died in February at the age of 95, along with his wife Betsy Arakawa, who was 65.

Following his passing, fans of the beloved Hollywood figure have gathered at Jinja Bar & Bistro to express their condolences, by penning messages and placing bouquets of flowers.

Friend and ex-business partner Doug Lanham, affectionately known as Hackman’s dear companion, shared with TMZ that the Man of Steel actor occasionally visited for a meal or even picked up the tab for other customers.

He co-owned the eatery with Lanham before selling his stake several years.  

Additionally, Lanham mentioned that Hackman wasn’t just a gifted actor on the big screen, but he was also a versatile painter, as his artwork adorns the walls of Jinja.

One of the eateries often visited by the celebrity was Harry’s Roadhouse. A visit of his to this restaurant was showcased on the Food Network.

For more than three decades, I’ve been acquainted with Gene and his spouse. He was a cherished, highly regarded frequent patron of ours, as shared by Kathleen O’Brien, aged 61, in her conversation with DailyMail.com.

Instead of saying “O’Brien stated that the Oscar winner was ‘never presumptuous,'” you could say “O’Brien described the Oscar winner as being ‘always humble, gracious, and very giving, always ready to flash a smile and tell a clever joke.’

She added, ‘We were always giving them the space to be very private people.’

In that particular memory, O’Brien found himself reminiscing about the year 2008, when Hackman made a visit to the restaurant, coinciding with celebrity chef Guy Fieri shooting a scene for his show, Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.

She exclaimed, “That was quite unusual! As it turned out, they were recording something, and Gene just happened to walk in for a business discussion about a book he was working on, right here at this restaurant.

During filming, one of Guy’s aides burst into the kitchen in a rush and exclaimed, “Guy, Gene Hackman has arrived!

She recalled that Guy Fieri swiftly exited the kitchen, pulled Gene next to him, and they engaged in a chat at the counter for about 45 minutes.

On Wednesday, February 26, the bodies of Gene and Betsy were discovered in different rooms within their luxurious $3.3 million Santa Fe estate.

Investigators think that, since Hackman’s last known activity with his pacemaker was on February 17, it is probable that he had passed away around nine days before his body was found.

Sheriff Adan Mendoza of Santa Fe County said, “It’s a reasonable guess that was likely his final day alive.

In one of my recent investigations as a lifestyle expert, I unfortunately uncovered a tragic incident where I myself discovered the unfortunate passing of Arakawa. The scene took place in a bathroom setting, with a space heater and an open assortment of medications close by – thyroid medication, Tylenol, and blood pressure medication.

Daniel Lenihan, a close acquaintance of the couple, shared with People this week that prior to their demise, Betsy was making efforts to keep Gene involved, stimulated, and in good health. He also mentioned that Hackman participated in puzzles and yoga sessions over Zoom on a daily basis.
