Mike Whitney’s Shocking Transformation: You Won’t Believe His New Look in Las Vegas!
On a Thursday in Las Vegas, former star of the show “Who Dares Win,” Mike Whitney, was noticed with an appearance quite distinct from his prime years.
66-year-old television personality, previously associated with Channel Seven, was spotted attending an NRL media function held at Resorts World in an American metropolis.
Mike beamed with pleasure as he donned a black T-shirt bearing the logo of his podcast, ‘How’s That?’, and sported quite a bit of silver hair.
During his evening out, he was spotted enjoying himself and taking photos with other friendly podcast hosts. It seemed like he was thoroughly enjoying every moment.
Following Mike’s disclosure, it was discovered why his hit reality TV series, Who Dares Win, was canceled towards the end of the 1990s.
Previously acclaimed test cricketer served as a co-host for the widely recognized Channel Seven series, sharing hosting duties with Tania Zaetta from 1996 to 1998.
In the program, competitors were challenged to accomplish an assortment of exhilarating feats in exchange for rewards—ranging from less hazardous activities such as whistling whilst enjoying cookies, to more perilous tasks like leaping from a three-story structure onto a safety mat.
Mike recently featured on the “Bloke in a Bar” podcast, where he shared that the series’ unprecedented ratings success wasn’t enough to save it from being canceled due to excessive insurance expenses.
The show was absolutely wild! Let me tell you what went down. In the first season, the main challenge was a daring feat – if someone managed to pull it off, they got to travel around the world for their vacation. The following year, that same dare came with a $50 prize tag.
He mentioned that creators often struggle to keep the stakes exciting, yet not so perilous that insurance costs skyrocket.
Let’s move forward, let’s move forward, let’s move forward! It seems there were drawings on the company bulletin board about someone feeding a shark in Queensland while wearing a chainmail metal hand protector,” he mentioned.
I suggested to the producers, “Suppose a shark were to bite the contestant near the elbow? Then, the insurance costs would skyrocket!” In other words, the cost of insurance coverage would become extremely high if such an incident occurred.
In simpler terms, during the competition, there were risky motorcycle stunts that weren’t broadcasted, resulting in several participants getting hurt and requiring hospitalization. Shortly after these incidents, the show came to an end.
‘You couldn’t make the show now!’ he finished.

In January 2022, Mike ended his 27-year tenure with Seven Network and relinquished his hosting duties for Sydney Weekender, a travel show.
In the finale, he welcomed his successor, former sprinter and now broadcaster Matt Shirvington, who subsequently transitioned to hosting duties on Sunrise.
For the TV host, it was a mix of happiness and sadness, as he reminisced about his past, which started way back in 1994 with Sydney Weekender.
‘Twenty-seven years! To do anything for that long is a very long time,’ he said of his resignation.
In Australia, I held an exceptional hosting position that allowed me to journey across New South Wales extensively, encountering extraordinary individuals, and experiencing unforgettable adventures.
He added: ‘Others are willing to pay for tasks I was compensated for. I’m deeply appreciative for having been given the chance to contribute to this series.’
Indeed, folks often inquire if I’ll feel the absence of it. Absolutely, there will be a void, but let me tell you, I’ve had an unparalleled cricket journey that I won’t forget, and just like my cherished cricket career, this too came to an end. But can you imagine having the opportunity to retire from two remarkable chapters of my life? It’s simply indescribable!
Mike joined Sydney Weekender the same year he retired from cricket.
Apart from the TV shows mentioned, he has also been a host for other programs, such as ABC’s Great Ideas, Who Dares Wins, and Last Chance Learners.
He has three 30-year-old children named Fergus, Juliet, and Madeline, who he co-parents with his former spouse, Debbie.
