Natalie Portman became emotional and started crying while talking about the current actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Since Donald Trump’s return to the presidency, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested thousands of people, leading to protests in some cities.
I was so excited to see Natalie at the Sundance Film Festival premiere of her new movie, ‘The Gallerist’! She looked amazing, and I noticed she was wearing an ICE OUT pin while she was posing for pictures – a really cool touch!
I still can’t believe it. The premiere happened, but it feels wrong, so wrong. It’s just… Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old nurse from Minnesota, he was… he was shot. A disagreement with federal agents, they said. It’s just awful. He was a real fan, like me, and now he’s gone. It completely overshadows everything, you know?
During a press conference, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated that Pretti became physically aggressive during the incident, and she also asked why he was armed with a legally owned weapon.
She explained that Pretti had interfered with police work, assaulted officers, and was carrying a weapon along with a large amount of ammunition.
Natalie became visibly upset while talking to reporters on the red carpet, and started to cry as she described what happened.
She described a terrible day and week, adding that the events unfolding in the country were deeply upsetting.
The actions of Donald Trump, Kristi Noem, and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) towards both citizens and undocumented individuals are shocking and must stop.
Honestly, seeing so much incredible support and unity within our communities lately has been truly heartwarming. It’s a beautiful reminder of what makes this country special. But, I’m also feeling overwhelmed by everything happening, and I really feel like we need to find a way to move forward and find some peace.
In a separate interview at the same event, she stated that the current situation in the country is deeply troubling, citing the federal government’s actions against civilians in American cities.
It’s wonderful to be here with everyone, celebrating a film we all worked hard on and are truly proud of. However, it’s hard to enjoy this moment knowing what Immigration and Customs Enforcement is doing to people in our country.
It’s truly inspiring to see so many incredible Americans stepping up to support one another and build strong communities. It’s a really beautiful thing.
Celebrities like Mandy Moore and Ariana Grande expressed their anger after the event that happened over the weekend.
Shortly after the event, Mandy shared a New York Times article on her Instagram story. The article’s headline read: ‘Federal Agents Shoot And Kill A Person In Minneapolis, Officials Say.’
The actress then added her own message at the bottom which read, ‘We have eyeballs.
We watched the video, and it shows the wrong person being killed. I’m really worried about how things will play out, because this is a very dangerous situation.
As a huge Ariana Grande fan, I was really disturbed to see her share a tweet about the tragic shooting in Minneapolis. It highlighted how, while people all over the country are protesting the harmful actions of ICE, federal agents went on to shoot and kill someone else. It’s just heartbreaking and really underscores the urgent need for change.
‘ICE terrorizes our cities. ICE puts us all in danger. Abolish ICE.’
On Saturday, Pretti’s family released a statement saying he was killed by criminals in a cowardly act.
Alex was a genuinely kind person who deeply loved his family and friends. As an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital, he also provided compassionate care for American veterans.
Alex had a strong desire to improve the world, and though he won’t be here to witness the results of his efforts, he truly was a hero – a title I don’t use often.
‘However his last thought and act was to protect a woman.
We are appalled by the false and disturbing claims made by the administration about our son. Video evidence clearly shows Alex was unarmed when confronted by ICE agents, who acted in a violent and unacceptable manner.
He’s holding his phone in one hand and raising the other to shield a woman who was pushed by ICE, all while being sprayed with pepper spray.
They concluded with, ‘Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man.’
The family initially blamed ICE for the shooting, but it was actually DHS officers who fired the shots.
On Saturday night, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stated that reports suggest the man shot by agents, Pretti, had shown a weapon to them beforehand.
But footage taken of the killing appears to dispute her claims.
One agent was seen removing what appeared to be Pretti’s legally-owned handgun from his waistband.
Pretti loved spending time outdoors and often went on adventures with his dog, Joule, a Catahoula Leopard, who sadly passed away recently.
He also joined demonstrations after Renee Good was shot and killed by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer on January 7th.
Pretti, a US citizen originally from Illinois, had no criminal history, according to court documents. His family stated he’d only ever had minor traffic violations and no other involvement with law enforcement, similar to Good.
His parents, who live in Colorado, recently advised him to be safe while participating in protests.
According to family, Pretti legally owned a handgun and had a permit to carry it hidden, but they stated he never actually carried the weapon.
The family found out about the shooting when a reporter from the Associated Press contacted them.
