Dad’s Spirit Visits Davina After Surgery

Davina McCall shared that she found solace in the presence of her deceased father’s spirit after undergoing a challenging brain operation.

As a devoted admirer, I found myself deeply moved by the tale of a remarkable woman who lost her creative father, Andrew, at the age of 77. After a prolonged struggle with the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s disease – a condition that cruelly attacks memory, speech, and balance – he bid us farewell.

On Friday, she honored her father by sharing a heartwarming photo to commemorate the third year since his passing. In doing so, she disclosed that he appeared to her following her surgery.

Davina underwent surgery last year after a doctor discovered a colloid cyst in her brain.

After my surgery, Andrew stopped by, and he shared that the encounter felt incredibly realistic to him, and it was pleasant to have him there.

Davina posted on Instagram a lovely photo of them hugging, accompanied by this caption: “It’s been three years since we last saw each other… I miss you so much… the best Dad anyone could ask for.

‘Reliable, amusing, joyful, playful, truthful, secure, supportive, cheerful, warm, maternal (or motherly), Milly and I often think about you daily. You came to see me after my surgery… you seemed so genuine… it’s as if I’ve seen you just recently! It feels wonderful!!!’

Davina openly discussed her health issue in a heartfelt Instagram post, where she encouraged others to undergo private medical examinations if they have the financial means to do so.

During a discussion on menopause, the host of “The My Mum Your Dad” show underwent a health check-up at a private clinic, where they discovered a tumor.

In my dedication, I found that not only my physical well-being was affected by the tumor but also my bond with my partner, Michael Douglas, faced a significant trial.

In an interview with Steven Bartlett on his Begin Again podcast, Davina openly shared that she and Michael had a very close relationship before her surgery. However, she expressed that the most challenging period for Michael wasn’t during their closeness but rather when she was in intensive care for several days afterwards.

She mentioned: “It’s been particularly challenging for him, given my role as someone who keeps things organized and in control.

Initially, our shared fear drew us exceptionally close, but the first month of his hospitalization was incredibly agonizing, challenging, and tough for him. That WhatsApp group served as his therapy, his lifeline, a source of strength I can hardly imagine him surviving without.

What makes him truly remarkable is his multifaceted nature. He’s not just physically robust; he’s also tender, humorous, thoughtful, intelligent, and a bit of a jester.

It appears that you spent the last two to three days in an intensive care unit. For Michael, the first few days were particularly challenging, but after approximately three or four days, there was a significant improvement.

In the interview, Davina mentioned that the surgery significantly transformed her bond with her stepmother Gabby. She confessed that she developed a deep affection for her, marking the first time she experienced such feelings towards her.

It came to light that her father, who passed away in 2022, wed his second wife, Gabby, when the speaker herself was just six years old. After spending numerous years residing with her grandmother, she joined them at the age of 13.

Previously, the star opened up about her complex bond with her biological mother Florence, whom she referred to as an ‘alcoholic.’ Sadly, Florence passed away in the year 2008.

For a long time, Davina felt guilty about living with her father and stepmother, thinking falsely that they weren’t happy to have her reside with them.

However, following her latest surgery, the pair had a heartfelt conversation that brought them even closer together. Their bond grew stronger still upon the passing of her father.

In 2017, Davina shared deeply felt observations that led her to believe her father might have Alzheimer’s.

The presenter and her family noticed him retelling a story from just 15 minutes ago and failing to remember occurrences from recent days.

Gradually, Andrew began having difficulty finding the right words to express himself, locating common household objects, and making peculiar comments.

She mentioned that her father has consistently been a pillar of strength for her. He is considerably more intelligent, witty, and robust than she is, which has always inspired a slight admiration bordering on hero worship.

When he began making humorous comments such as, “I traveled by land train” and “Contact me once your job becomes less volatile,” it didn’t take much time for everyone to gather and question whether there was cause for worry.

As a lifestyle expert, I can share a personal anecdote about my father: Initially, a psychologist suggested that his challenges might have been lingering for some time. However, what stood out was not just his problems, but rather the strategies he devised to tackle them. Indeed, that’s my dad – facing obstacles with innovative solutions, always turning adversity into an opportunity for growth.

She went on to say: “Dad remains incredibly charismatic; anyone who encounters him can’t help but be smitten. That aspect of him has stayed the same.

Despite his diagnosis with Alzheimer’s, he continues to offer the most comforting embraces that my children absolutely love. Interestingly, his tranquility has increased since then, which the kids find particularly appealing.

I’ve mourned the passing of my dear father, yet we’re building a fresh bond, one that may require more from me. The dynamics between us have shifted, but he remains my father nonetheless.

In 2016, when Andrew was 73 years old, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. Similarly, his grandmother, who passed away in 2018, had been dealing with dementia as well.

When Davina was just three years old, her life changed as she started living with her maternal grandparents after her parents, namely her father and Florence Hennion, went through a divorce.

In 2019, the presenter, who struggled with drug and alcohol problems in her teenage years, opened up about her complicated bond with Florence. She confessed that they used drugs during her childhood because there weren’t any clear parental restrictions or boundaries in place at the time.

In her youth, she shared a relationship with her mother that lacked any clear limits. By the age of thirteen, she was allowed to wear makeup, short skirts, and high heels, and they would drink together. Over time, this extended to using drugs with her mother.

She is in no way responsible for my addiction; however, our relationship was far from typical or healthy.

In those days, I was merely a child, and truthfully, I found her appealing because my grandmother, Pippy, who raised Davina since she was three, along with my father, had always prevented me from doing such activities in England.

In an episode of Who Do You Think You Are?, Davina shared that she was left by her mother when she was just three years old. Her mother had remarried a total of four times before passing away in 2008.

For eight long years, they didn’t exchange a word. In the heartfelt episode of Big Brother, the show’s host confessed that his mother might not have been fit to raise children.

Davina has three children: Holly (23), Tilly (21), and Chester (18), who are her daughters and son, respectively, from her former marriage to Matthew Robertson.
