South Korean Police Summon Japanese Woman for Allegedly Kissing BTS’ Jin Without Consent

SEOUL — The South Korean authorities have called in a Japanese woman for interrogation due to accusations that she kissed Jin, a member of the globally famous K-pop group BTS, without his permission at an “anything goes” hugging event held previously.

A representative from the Songpa Police Station in Seoul stated that they had summoned a woman for questioning regarding a claim of sexual harassment. To protect her privacy, they chose not to reveal her name.

The station announced that they initiated an examination following a report received online, but declined to disclose additional information as the investigation was currently ongoing.

According to news sources, South Korean authorities managed to identify a woman, around 50 years old, with assistance from their Japanese counterparts. This woman reportedly declined to attend questioning sessions.

After completing his compulsory 18-month military service in June 2024, Jin (whose real name is Kim Seok-jin) marked both his discharge and the band’s 11-year anniversary by giving out free hugs at an event in Seoul. This event, which was said to have been attended by around 1,000 people, saw a woman unexpectedly planting a kiss on Jin’s cheek. Footage from the incident, which quickly spread online, seemed to show Jin appearing uncomfortable.

According to the Yonhap news agency, the woman described in a blog post online that “I kissed his neck. His skin felt incredibly smooth.

The South Korean boy band BTS was established in 2013, and they boast an expansive international fanbase that refers to itself as “the Army.” Among its members, Jin stands out as the eldest at 32 years old.
