Looking for a great movie to watch this weekend? Digital Spy has you covered with a guide to the best new releases now available on streaming services.
This week, Netflix and BBC iPlayer are offering a great selection of movies, including a highly-rated thriller from the 2000s directed by David Fincher, several popular films starring Margot Robbie, and a beloved family movie from the 1980s.
Here are five movies to add to your watchlists (plus a few more to keep an eye out for).

Best movie new to Netflix this week
The Barbie movie, a live-action version of the famous doll, quickly became a huge cultural event when it came out three years ago. It was part of the popular ‘Barbenheimer’ trend and became the year’s biggest box office hit.
Okay, so I just watched the new Barbie movie directed by Greta Gerwig, and it’s hilarious! Margot Robbie is Barbie, and the story is about her leaving Barbieland and coming to the real world. It seriously messes with her head – she starts questioning everything, which is super funny but also kinda deep. It’s basically an existential crisis for a doll!
Okay, so Ryan Gosling as Ken totally stole the show for me – especially that song, ‘I’m Just Ken,’ which was amazing! The movie also had some great supporting actors like America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, and Will Ferrell, who all brought their A-game.

Here’s what’s new on Netflix this week: 20th Century Women, Airplane!, La La Land, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

Best movie new to Prime Video this week
Zodiac is a 2007 film directed by David Fincher, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Mark Ruffalo, and Robert Downey Jr. It tells the story of the investigation into the infamous Zodiac Killer who terrorized San Francisco in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
I was totally captivated watching how the detectives and journalists in this story really got obsessed with figuring out who this serial killer was and making sure he faced the consequences. It’s all based on books by Robert Graysmith, and it shows just how consumed everyone became with solving the case.
The movie wasn’t a big hit in theaters, but it’s become incredibly popular with audiences over time and is now a beloved cult classic. One IMDb user perfectly described it as a brilliant combination of a talented director and a complex story.
This week on Prime Video, you can also watch: Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Saipan, Candyman (2021), School of Rock, and Saving Private Ryan.

Best movie new to BBC iPlayer this week
Margot Robbie gained early recognition for her role in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, a film based on the real-life story of controversial stockbroker Jordan Belfort, portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio.
The 2013 movie follows Jordan Belfort’s journey from success on Wall Street to his downfall, as illegal and corrupt practices at his firm attract the attention of law enforcement.
Featuring Jonah Hill, Matthew McConaughey, and Kyle Chandler, The Wolf of Wall Street received mixed reviews from The Times, who described it as both a wild and excessive film, and highly enjoyable depending on your preferences.
Here’s what’s new on BBC iPlayer this week: The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, The Imitation Game, Paddington, Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl, Gosford Park, and Brooklyn.

Best movie new to ITVX this week
If you want a heartwarming and classic sci-fi movie the whole family will enjoy, you can’t beat Steven Spielberg’s E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.
With a remarkable 99% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and praised by Cinematic Lovelies as a heartwarming reminder of the beauty of film and human kindness, the movie centers around a boy named Elliott and his friendship with an alien.
After an alien gets stuck on Earth, a young boy named Elliott and those around him work to find a way to send him back to his home planet, culminating in a deeply emotional scene. The film stars Henry Thomas and Drew Barrymore as children.
Also new to ITVX this week: Hot Fuzz, No Time to Die, Fast & Furious: Hobbs & Shaw

Best movie new to Channel 4 this week
Okay, so I was SO excited to hear they’re finally making another Simpsons movie! It got me thinking, it’s been almost twenty years since the first one, The Simpsons Movie, came out. I decided it was the perfect time to rewatch it and relive the magic!
In the 2007 film, the town of Springfield faces a crisis when Homer accidentally pollutes the lake. As a result, the Environmental Protection Agency traps the entire town under a massive glass dome.
As a huge Simpsons fan, I totally agree with what Variety said about the movie! They nailed it when they described it as exactly what a Simpsons movie should be – smart, funny, a little bit edgy, and with a story big enough to fill more than a regular episode. It really felt like they understood what makes the show great and brought that to the big screen.
This week on Channel 4, you can also watch these films: Top Gun: Maverick, Toy Story 3, We’re All Going to the World’s Fair, Heat, and Sexy Beast.
The latest issue of Living Legends, a vibrant, full-colour 100-page tribute to Sir David Attenborough, is now available! You can purchase it at newsstands or online.
