Amazon boss breaks silence on James Bond takeover: “We don’t have a plan yet”
In a recent statement, Amazon’s CEO, Andy Jassy, expressed his thoughts about the upcoming direction of the James Bond series now that Amazon holds the creative reins for the franchise.
It became public knowledge last week that Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson, long-term producers of the Bond franchise, will no longer hold the reins for creative decision-making moving forward.
In simple terms, the duo reached an agreement with Amazon MGM Studios (who have owned the distribution rights for the film series since 2022). As a result, they established a shared business to manage and hold the ownership rights for these intellectual properties.
Commenting on the huge acquisition for Amazon, Jassy said there isn’t a plan at the moment.
“We don’t have a plan yet on what the next theme is going to be,” he told CNBC (via Deadline).
In the current setup, Broccoli and Wilson continue as joint owners of the franchise, however, the creative decisions are now in the hands of Amazon. Yet, Amazon’s head, Jassy, has made it clear that there is no planned narrative for a fresh Bond movie at this moment.
He mentioned that no one has penned the story as of now, but he assured us that they would handle it with utmost diligence. The story belongs to an incredible franchise that they hold dear and are eager to nurture and expand for a considerable length of time.
In a recent interview, Jassy was asked about the upcoming AI advancements in Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant. He humorously remarked that he doubts AI will compose a James Bond film anytime in the near future.
Afterward, the CEO mentioned that it’s a great privilege for our company’s executives to guide the Bond series into its future.
“And we have amazing filmmakers that we have hired over time at MGM Amazon Studios,” he continued.
After the surprising announcement, Jassy offered comfort to fans who were worried about the future of James Bond on the silver screen. The latest installment of the series was “No Time To Die,” released in 2021, which was also Daniel Craig’s last performance as 007.
Craig emphasized that his respect, admiration, and affection for Barbara and Michael continue to be unwavering and strong as he announced the franchise transfer to Amazon.
The celebrity expressed his wishes for Michael’s peaceful and extended retirement, earned through hard work, and he anticipates that whatever projects Barbara embarks on will be impressive. He hopes he might have a chance to join those endeavors in the future.
