Some important plot points from the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday were accidentally revealed before Marvel Studios wanted fans to know them. Filming for the highly anticipated sequel to Endgame took place in the UK between March and September of last year, and more filming is planned in the coming months. The movie, expected to be one of the biggest Marvel Cinematic Universe releases ever, is scheduled to come out on December 18th.
Marvel Studios is keeping details about the upcoming Avengers film, Doomsday, tightly under wraps, as they often do. While we know Robert Downey Jr. will play Doctor Doom, the movie will lead into Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027, and classic X-Men actors will return, most of the plot remains a secret for now.
Tobey’s Spider-Man vs Hugh’s Wolverine

There’s talk that Avengers: Doomsday will begin with an exciting battle between Spider-Man (played by Tobey Maguire) and Wolverine (played by Hugh Jackman). This would finally give fans what they’ve wanted for years: a team-up between these iconic Marvel heroes.
According to MyTimeToShineHello, this moment happens just as the different Earths are on the verge of colliding, immediately showing how dangerous the Incursions are and the threat they pose to the entire Multiverse.
There’s also talk that Spider-Man and Wolverine won’t be fighting alone. Wolverine might get help from other X-Men, and Doc Ock – who seemed changed after Spider-Man: No Way Home – could join forces with Spider-Man.
Doctor Doom’s Agenda (& Steve Rogers’ Role)

It’s been widely known for a while that Robert Downey Jr. will play Doctor Doom as the central villain in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie. Interestingly, it seems this version of Doom will actually team up with heroes from across the Multiverse to prevent a major crisis called the Incursions.
Rumors suggest the upcoming Avengers 5 will revise Doctor Doom’s origin story. A key addition is a tragic past involving his wife and child, who died in an accident that also left him scarred – and ultimately led to him wearing his famous mask.
In the end, the story revealed the accident was caused by events in Avengers: Endgame, specifically when Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) went back in time to be with Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell).
Marvel Studios is bringing back two of its original actors – Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell – for a new project reportedly titled Doomsday. They filmed scenes together as their characters, Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter, and their child. Robert Downey Jr. is also involved, playing a version of Doom. It’s currently unknown whether Doom’s intentions are to fight or team up with the now-retired Avenger, and he seems to be keeping his true plans a secret.
Doom is presenting himself as the hero the Multiverse needs, but it seems he’s actually on a mission of revenge. He’s targeting those responsible for causing disruptions between universes, driven by a deep-seated grudge against the Multiverse itself.
As a huge film buff, I’ve been following the buzz around ‘Doom’ in the 2026 blockbuster, and it’s fascinating! Apparently, they’re portraying him as a real wolf in sheep’s clothing – he initially teams up with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes looking like he’s on the side of good. But don’t be fooled! By the end of the movie, it’s going to become clear he has some hidden agendas and isn’t who he seems.
The Fantastic Four & Doctor Doom Team-Up

Following a series of leaks and rumors about Avengers: Doomsday, MTTSH reported that Robert Downey Jr.’s character, Victor von Doom, will seek assistance from the Fantastic Four to handle the Incursions. This initial encounter was hinted at in the post-credits scene of The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
According to sources, Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards and Robert Downey Jr.’s Doom will share a history in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, putting to rest concerns that their past connection would be overlooked.
The recent Thunderbolts trailer gave us a glimpse of what happens after the meeting, showing a “space crisis” where the Fantastic Four’s spaceship crash-lands on Earth. According to MTTSH, the ship will carry not only Marvel’s First Family and Doctor Doom, but also Chris Evans’ version of Captain America.
The latest trailer for Doomsday features a scene with M’Baku and The Thing, suggesting the Fantastic Four might end up in Wakanda. This could lead to Shuri rallying Earth’s heroes to assist.
The X-Men Incursion

The heroes from Earth-828 will journey to Earth-616 to deliver a warning about upcoming Incursions. They’ll then team up and travel to the X-Men’s universe, which is believed to be where the next Incursion will begin. They need to fix this problem before their own world is destroyed.
Fans who watched the credits of The Marvels saw that Monica Rambeau has ended up on a different Earth – the one where the X-Men live. This has led to theories that her arrival might be causing the dangerous merging of universes seen in the films. While it’s been reported that Teyonah Parris, who plays Monica Rambeau in WandaVision, could be important in the upcoming Doomsday movie, sources say she hasn’t filmed any scenes yet and might not unless additional shooting is scheduled.
Fans have been hoping for a live-action crossover between the Avengers and the X-Men ever since the popular comic event Avengers vs. X-Men came out fourteen years ago. Now, Marvel is finally bringing that idea to life with Doomsday, a story that may be masterminded by the villain of the same name.
The latest trailer for Doomsday reveals the Sentinels will appear in the 2026 film. It also suggests that Doctor Doom might be responsible for turning them into weapons against mutants, which fits with his long-standing habit of combining magic and technology.
In this alternate reality focused on the X-Men, reports suggest Magneto, played by Ian McKellen, will at last be in charge of Genosha and have successfully built his dream society for mutants. He’s also said to have established a family, including different versions of Wanda and Pietro Maximoff, and his daughter, Polaris.
Sir Ian McKellen accidentally revealed a detail about his role in the upcoming Doomsday film during an interview with Jake’s Takes. He jokingly mentioned that he “destroyed New Jersey” while filming. It’s currently unknown if this event will happen within the main X-Men universe (Earth-616) or an alternate reality.
At 86, the actor famous for The Lord of the Rings will be the oldest lead in a Marvel Cinematic Universe film, but many still consider Magneto the standout character in Doomsday.
Avengers: Doomsday’s Secret Heroes

Marvel Studios revealed most of the cast for Avengers: Doomsday in February 2025, before filming began, and has added a few actors since then. Although the cast announced at that initial event appears to be the main group for Avengers 5, some important actors are still being kept under wraps.
Marvel’s recent announcements confirmed that younger heroes like Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld), and Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton) will appear in the upcoming Doomsday project, hinting at the formation of the Young Avengers team in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The report also revealed surprise appearances by several actors, including Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts, and Owen Wilson as Mobius. However, it’s currently unknown how big their parts will be.
Reports suggested Avengers 5 would include several Doctor Dooms, but it now seems these won’t be alternate versions from different universes like Kang. Instead, they’ll likely be followers helping him with events similar to Doomsday and potentially Secret Wars.
Marvel’s ‘Multiverse of Madness’ team-up special confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch and Hayley Atwell, both well-known from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will reprise their roles as magical characters.
Fans already know about seven X-Men the Avengers will face in battle on this Earth, and there’s a chance even more well-known mutants will show up.
Loki’s MacGuffin Role

Tom Hiddleston is returning as Loki in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie, and his role is expected to be significant. After appearing in his own Disney+ series, Loki is now positioned as a key figure—the God of Stories—who seems to be holding the entire Multiverse together, though the exact details of his involvement remain a mystery.
Disney has suggested that Loki might eventually join the Avengers in the upcoming Doomsday film. This would mean a reunion with his brother, Thor (played by Chris Hemsworth), and a significant turnaround for the character, who first fought the Avengers during the Battle of New York in 2012.
There’s potentially more to Loki’s involvement than initially thought. According to insider Alex Perez, Loki is essentially the key to the entire plot, much like a ‘MacGuffin’ – the object everyone is chasing. The movie reportedly centers around a frantic race to find Loki, with Doctor Doom likely intending to steal his abilities.
Doom’s Pre-Secret Wars Victory

Similar to how Avengers: Infinity War ended with Thanos’ devastating snap, the upcoming film starring Robert Downey Jr. as Doom is expected to conclude with a victory for the villain, paving the way for Secret Wars. Actor Anthony Mackie, who plays Sam Wilson, has revealed that Avengers 5 will finish on a suspenseful note, with the resolution not arriving until December 17, 2027 – a full year later.
A central idea in Marvel Comics’ 2015 event, Secret Wars, is the setting: Battleworld. This reality is formed from the shattered pieces of the Multiverse and is governed by Doctor Doom, who has become a god-like ruler after a catastrophic event called the Incursion.
It wouldn’t be surprising if Doom took over Loki’s power over the Multiverse – similar to how the Beyonders did in the comics – and used it to build Battleworld at the end of the story.
It’s curious that Doom resembles Tony Stark, and his allies look like Doctor Strange and Peggy Carter. However, we might not get answers in the next Avengers movie. According to John Campea, these mysteries will likely be explained in Secret Wars instead.
Expect a few more unexpected turns in Doomsday, as the first half of the movie is much easier to follow than what comes after. The upcoming Avengers film will apparently return to the Void seen in Loki and Deadpool & Wolverine, but it’s currently unclear how that, or anything involving the TVA, will fit into the story.
