In my role as a lifestyle advisor, I’d like to share an insightful tale about Michelle Trachtenberg, who, unfortunately, understood the likelihood of her own demise and reached out to me via FaceTime from her hospital bed before her passing at 39 years old.

Initially, the photographer, aged 52, paid homage to the late Gossip Girl actress, whose body was discovered on Wednesday morning, but subsequently adjusted her post’s caption.

Dear Beloved Michelle,

Waking up to such dismal news this morning has been heart-wrenching. It’s odd and painful for me to express this, yet I feel compelled to share my sentiments regarding your passing, as you meant something to me. This is a tribute to the person you were.

As the vibrant, youthful woman I captured in that photograph, you shall forever be etched in my memory. Your essence, a unique blend of sweetness and humor, shone through during our recent FaceTime call from the hospital, even though physically you seemed different.

She stated, “I won’t disclose the topics of our chats from the past six months. However, you were aware that he faced a significant risk of mortality,” referring to Trachtenberg, who, according to TMZ, has recently undergone a live transplant and was reportedly dealing with a high chance of death.

De Cadenet later deleted that part of her tribute. 

She finished penning her caption, expressing regret that things didn’t turn out as hoped. I wish you a smooth transition, dear friend, and may your soul find peace at last.

She provided no further details about her connection with the actress, nor explained the events leading up to Trachtenberg’s hospitalization.

Trachtenberg’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer co-star Alyson Hannigan, 50, also mourned the star’s death.

She shared five photos of her with Michelle throughout the years.

I’m profoundly sorrowful upon learning about Michelle’s demise. Her warmth permeated the set of Buffy, creating an unforgettable atmosphere. My sympathies go out to Michelle’s loved ones during this difficult time.

In the show, Michelle took on the role of Dawn Summers, Buffy’s younger sister, while Alyson played Willow Rosenberg, a close friend of Buffy.

The actress became a sci-fi favorite after joining TV show Buffy the Vampire Slayer in 2000.

She had been in talks to appear in a hotly-anticipated reboot at the time of her death.

On a chilly Wednesday morning, Trachtenberg’s mother discovered her lifeless body in their New York City apartment, situated close to Columbus Circle.

According to reports from the police to ABC News, it appears that Trachtenberg passed away due to natural reasons, possibly with difficulties arising after a liver transplant procedure.

Police told DailyMail.com that there is no foul play suspected in her death. 

According to the most recent updates, the actress was unwell and seriously ill before her unexpected passing.

In the year leading up to her death, she confided in her friends that she was facing difficulties and was experiencing deep emotional distress, according to a source who spoke to People.

The source revealed that she was extremely unwell and candid with those close to her about her hardships. They noted she appeared quite pale, malnourished, and alarmingly thin.

During conversations with DailyMail.com, an employee at the restaurant disclosed that Trachtenberg was extremely ill on her last visit and had great difficulty navigating a set of staircases within the establishment.

The star’s gaunt appearance stunned staff at Sartiano’s restaurant in SoHo, New York.

On Thursday, February 20th, there were only a few days left before the heartbreaking discovery of the deceased Gossip Girl actress in her Manhattan apartment by her own mother.

On Wednesday, a worker remarked that she appeared extremely ill, much like someone who is seriously unhealthy, but did so while maintaining confidentiality.

‘She was extremely slim, almost minuscule, finding it difficult to navigate stairs. She wasn’t particularly cheerful, not making the best first impression.’

‘It’s spooky because she was in here just last week on Thursday night,’ the worker added.

‘I’ve learned about her passing mere hours past, and it’s heart-wrenching. She was accompanied by another kind-hearted woman during her final moments.’

On Wednesday night, restaurant proprietor Scott Sartiano paid an emotional homage to the celebrity, just days after she was last spotted at the bustling downtown venue with another woman by her side.

‘Many years of happy memories,’ Sartiano wrote alongside a picture of he and Trachtenberg together.

‘Rest in Peace Michelle.’ Sartiano added a broken heart emoji alongside the photo and caption.

According to various sources, it is reported that Trachtenberg passed away due to natural reasons, but the police have not yet confirmed this information as the official cause of death.

On Wednesday at 8 am, Lana, her mother, found her in their expensive apartment located at Columbus Circle, which they were renting for $7,500 a month.

NYPD officials said an autopsy would be performed.

On Wednesday, February 26, 2025, around 8:01 AM, the police department received an emergency call about someone needing help at 1 Columbus Place, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Midtown North Precinct, according to their official report.

When they arrived, officers found a 39-year-old woman who was unaware of their presence and not responding. Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene and declared the person deceased.

There’s no reason to believe any wrongdoing occurred. The Medical Examiner will identify the cause of death. The inquiry continues to progress.

Last year, Trachtenberg took to Instagram to shoot down speculation about her gaunt appearance.

She denied rumors she had undergone cosmetic surgery and added that she was ‘happy and healthy.’

In a recent Instagram post, Trachtenberg appeared delicate as she took a selfie against a hedge.

Patients such as Trachtenberg could potentially undergo a liver transplant if they’ve harmed the essential organ through heavy alcohol consumption.

Alcoholics who have been given a transplant must abstain from drinking afterwards.

As a diligent supporter, I’ve learned that while liver transplants can offer new life, they can also pose potentially lethal challenges, even for those who strictly adhere to the post-transplant guidelines.

Just as with any other transplanted organ, those who receive a transplant need to take potent immunosuppressive medications daily for the remainder of their lives in order to prevent their body from rejecting the newly received organ.

As a young actress, Trachtenberg started her career at the tender age of three, appearing on the Nickelodeon series titled The Adventures of Pete and Pete.

Her first big movie role was a child sleuth in 1996’s Harriet the Spy.

In addition, she appeared as the beloved antagonist Georgina Sparks in the initial run of Gossip Girl from 2008 to 2012.
