Michelle Trachtenberg’s Co-Stars Pay Tribute in the Wake of Her Death

Following the heartbreaking announcement of Michelle Trachtenberg’s passing at just 39 years old, several of her previous colleagues have expressed their condolences and remembrances on various social media platforms. They honored not only her acting talent but also the profound influence her friendship had on them personally.

On Wednesday, the police confirmed that Trachtenberg was discovered deceased in her New York City apartment by her mother around 8 a.m., local time. It’s said she had a recent liver transplant and might have been dealing with related issues. There are no indications of any wrongdoing.

In her youth, Jennifer Trachtenberg gained recognition for her breakout roles in the film adaptation of Louise Fitzhugh’s children’s book “Harriet the Spy,” as well as appearances on Nickelodeon’s sitcom “The Adventures of Pete & Pete” and soap opera “All My Children.” Later in her career, she played Dawn Summers, the younger sister of Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Buffy, in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” and the character Georgina Sparks in the original “Gossip Girl” series. Trachtenberg reprised this role in the 2021 HBO Max reboot, which marked her final performance. Some of her other roles include the teen sex comedy “Eurotrip” (2004), the figure-skating movie “Ice Princess” (2005), and the comedy “17 Again” (2009).

Through the course of the Wednesday afternoon, numerous of Trachtenberg’s colleagues reminisced about her and extended sympathies towards her loved ones.

As a film critic, I’d rephrase that as: “Remembering Michelle, my dear costar from ‘Ice Princess,’ who I had the pleasure of working with under Trachtenberg. Rest in peace, sweet friend.

A different colleague from “Buffy,” James Marsters, expressed his sorrow on Instagram about the passing of his former costar, Michelle. He wrote, “Today, my heart is filled with sadness as we’ve lost a radiant spirit. Michelle was remarkably intelligent, uncontrollably funny, and immensely talented. Her life was cut tragically short, leaving behind countless individuals who cherished her. My sympathies are with her family, who are genuinely kind people, now enduring the most profound loss anyone could face. I pray that everyone will respect their need for privacy during this challenging time. Farewell, Michelle. You will be deeply missed.

As a cinephile reflecting on the loss of a talented actress I had the pleasure of working with on “Gossip Girl,” my heart goes out to the family and friends of Michelle Trachtenberg. My thoughts are with you all during this difficult time.

In 1996, Rosie O’Donnell acted alongside Trachtenberg in the movie “Harriet the Spy”. Her recent passing left Rosie feeling extremely sad. She shared with Us Weekly that she had a deep affection for her, and over the past few years, she faced hardships. If only she could have provided more support.

Back in the mid-90s, I had the pleasure of starring alongside Michy Trachtenberg in a movie called “A Holiday for Love.” As neighbors, we shared more than just a postal code; we shared camaraderie. Today, my heart is heavy as I reflect on Michy and all those who cherished her. May her family find peace during these difficult times.
