Okay, so after a really tough couple of years – think major scheduling headaches, unexpected setbacks, and sadly, losing two beloved members of our Euphoria family – I’m thrilled to finally say that season three is here! It’s been a journey, but we’ve poured our hearts into it and can’t wait for you to see it.
The highly anticipated third season of the HBO teen drama hasn’t been a smooth experience for everyone involved. Reports suggest disagreements with the show’s creator, Sam Levinson, and on-set conflicts have created difficulties during production.
Rumors of tension between the actresses Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, and Alexa Demie gained more attention this week. Their interactions at the Los Angeles premiere seemed noticeably colder than they have in previous years.
Recent reports reveal that on-set friction stemmed from director Sam Levinson’s demanding approach, and a noticeable distance between the two lead actors of Euphoria, both during and outside of filming.
At the Los Angeles premiere of Euphoria’s third season on Tuesday, viewers noticed what seemed like tension between Zendaya and Sydney Sweeney while they were on the red carpet.
Zendaya, 29, turned heads in a brown halterneck Ashi Studio gown, as she posed solo for cameras.
Zendaya quickly greeted Hunter Schafer and hugged director Sam Levinson before her team led her away from the red carpet. She didn’t stop to talk to reporters.
Many people saw Zendaya’s speedy departure as a sign she’s finished with the show Euphoria, particularly since she’s currently busy promoting her new films, The Drama and Dune: Part Three.
At the Euphoria premiere, Sweeney was accompanied by her boyfriend, Scooter Braun, a music manager known for being a public figure. She wore a short, flowing white dress by Pierre Cardin.
The 28-year-old actress seemed to get along well with her co-stars – Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Hunter Schafer, and Maude Apatow – while posing for photos on the red carpet.
Despite appearances, things weren’t always smooth on the set of Euphoria. Sources say Angus Cloud, who played Fezco, gained a reputation for being challenging to work with due to disagreements over pay and a lengthy list of requests.
According to a source from the production, Zendaya was earning significantly more than Sydney on the project. It was difficult for Sydney, who has become a more prominent actress, to accept this, especially considering Zendaya was the bigger draw for the project.
The source said most of the crew enjoy having Sydney around and collaborating with her, but reactions from the cast are mixed – some like working with her, and others don’t.

Apparently, another insider told the Daily Mail that Alexa Demie – Sydney’s best friend on the show – is actually one of the people who doesn’t want to work with Jacob Elordi ever again! I mean, seriously? It’s just… heartbreaking to think about, considering their chemistry. I’m totally obsessed with them, and this is just awful news!
Even though Sydney Sweeney and Alexa Demie seemed friendly at the Euphoria premiere, a source revealed there was actually tension between the two actresses, who play Cassie and Maddie on the show.
As a longtime follower, I noticed a real tension between Alexa Demie and Sydney. They clearly avoided each other if they could, and honestly, it was obvious they weren’t on good terms – there was definitely no warmth between them, at all.
At the movie premiere, Sydney Sweeney briefly interrupted Alexa Demie’s red carpet interview to give her a hug. They exchanged quick greetings, and Sweeney complimented Demie, telling her she looked ‘amazing’.
After a video of their conversation spread online, many viewers called the interaction ‘awkward’ and ‘unnatural’ in the comments.
That evening, at the after-party held at the Chateau Marmont, Demie enthusiastically talked about how close she was to her Euphoria castmates Apatow, Schafer, and Zendaya, but she didn’t mention Sydney Sweeney.
‘I’m always giggly when I get together with Hunter, Maude, and Z,’ she told Vogue.
It’s always wonderful when we all get together – we’ve known each other for so long, we’re like family. Seeing everyone at events is such a comfort, and they really make evenings like this even more enjoyable. They’re a constant source of support and add so much fun to everything we do.
The Daily Mail has contacted representatives for Zendaya, Sweeney and Demie for comment.
The supposed rift among the Euphoria cast comes following a disastrous press cycle for Sweeney.
Last year, the actress found herself caught in a political debate after appearing in a commercial for American Eagle. She remained evasive when questioned about her opinions on President Donald Trump.
I remember last July when Maya Sweeney was in this jeans ad, and honestly, it caused a huge uproar online. People were really upset, comparing it to Nazi propaganda because the ad used the phrase ‘good genes’ and featured a blonde, blue-eyed model. It was a really controversial campaign, and everyone seemed to be talking about it!
After the controversy erupted, it was revealed that Sweeney was a registered Republican in Florida. This sparked outrage from many of her fans on the left, while Donald Trump playfully said he now liked her commercial.
When asked about the recent attention and Donald Trump’s positive comments, Sweeney repeated that she prefers to avoid taking sides in politics publicly.
She explained to Cosmopolitan in January that she prefers to focus on her art, not politics. ‘I’m here to create, not to debate,’ she said.
Honestly, it’s like… because I’m so into things, people just see me as someone they can manipulate and control. They want to use me to achieve their goals, like I’m just a piece in their game. It’s really frustrating, but I guess it comes with being so passionate about everything.
She clarified that she doesn’t consider herself a political person, explaining that her background is in the arts. She doesn’t feel qualified to discuss politics and never envisioned herself being involved in it, as it’s not the path she chose for her career.
Zendaya isn’t the only actor from Euphoria who seems to be creating distance between themselves and the rest of the cast.
Jacob Elordi, known for his role as Nate Jacobs, was also at the premiere of season three on Tuesday.
After promoting his hit movie Wuthering Heights and receiving an Oscar nomination for his performance in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, Elordi has been consistently busy with work, much like his ex-girlfriend Zendaya.
Wearing a Bottega Veneta suit – a brand he became an ambassador for in 2024 – Elordi posed for photos alone on the red carpet. He was also photographed embracing Apatow before the premiere.
Rumors of trouble between Jacob Elordi, 28, and Zendaya have circulated for a while, starting soon after they began dating after the first season of the show Euphoria.
Rumors of a romantic connection began in August 2019 when they were seen on vacation together in Greece, and grew stronger after they were photographed kissing in New York City in February 2020.
Their romance appeared to end by spring 2020, although he did congratulate Zendaya when she won an Emmy in September. She then began dating her Spider-Man co-star, Tom Holland, and they are now rumored to be married, starting in the following year.
According to a source who spoke with the Daily Mail, even though Jacob Elordi and Zendaya used to date, they maintained a professional working relationship while filming Euphoria.
‘Jacob and Zendaya were always professional with each other,’ they said.
It’s unlikely they’d become close friends, but they would collaborate again if the opportunity arose. If they happened to meet in the future, they’d be polite, but their conversations would probably be brief and stick to small talk, like the weather.
People on set really connected with Jacob; he was friendly and easy to work with, so he didn’t cause any trouble,” sources said.
According to a second source, Tom Holland sometimes visited the set during filming of Euphoria seasons two and three. The source also noted that there didn’t appear to be any issues between Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, and Holland.
Tom appeared in several episodes during the second season, and made a few appearances in the third. The idea of a cameo for him came up in conversation, but it wasn’t something they ever planned to actually do.
His presence was never a problem; he always knew when to give space and let others work. He was a complete professional.

Talk about behind-the-scenes issues has followed the promotion of Euphoria’s third season, which is expected to be the last. However, the biggest focus has been on rumors of a disagreement between Zendaya and the show’s creator, Levinson, and whether that will affect the possibility of a fourth season.
According to a 2024 Hollywood Reporter investigation, Zendaya and Sam Levinson reportedly had a falling out. This allegedly happened because Levinson focused all his energy on a new HBO show, The Idol, while the plans for the next season of Euphoria were still uncertain.
The 2023 TV series, The Idol, received overwhelmingly negative reviews. A particularly harsh article in Rolling Stone criticized the show’s explicit sexual content, calling it exploitative and resembling ‘torture porn’.
Representatives for Zendaya and Levinson declined to comment to The Hollywood Reporter at the time.
Okay, so they finally announced the cast for Euphoria season three in July 2024, and I’m losing it! They actually started filming in January 2025, which is amazing! But… and this is the part that’s killing me… Zendaya, who was a producer for seasons one and two, isn’t listed as one for season three?! I’ve read reports saying she doesn’t have the credit this time, and honestly, I’m a little heartbroken. She needs to be involved in every aspect of this show!
The second source strongly suggested a disagreement between Zendaya and Levinson, describing the filmmaker’s work style as very demanding.
Sam can be difficult to work with. He’s very focused and a perfectionist, and he has a strong vision for how things should be done on set, which doesn’t always mesh with everyone else’s approach, according to a source who spoke with the Daily Mail.
He prefers to work at his own pace and in his own way, and he’s determined to share his story authentically, relying solely on his own thoughts and experiences.
Although HBO and creator Sam Levinson haven’t officially announced whether ‘Euphoria’ will return for a fourth season, Zendaya recently hinted that the show might be over during an interview on ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’.
During an interview with Drew Barrymore, the actress suggested that season three of Euphoria will likely be the show’s last, responding with ‘I think so’ when asked about its future.
During the premiere on Tuesday, Levinson seemed surprised when asked about Zendaya’s recent statement that the show will end after its third season.
The creator of Euphoria has approached each season as if it could be the final one. He recently told Entertainment Tonight that he would be content if this upcoming season turned out to be the show’s last.
