From Breakup to Proposal: Savannah Guthrie’s Emotional Love Story Revealed!
Savannah Guthrie has revealed that she had a very rocky start with her husband Michael Feldman.
On The Kelly Clarkson Show on Wednesday, the 53-year-old from TODAY Show revealed that they had ended their relationship prior to him proposing.
For five-and-a-half years, the television personality yearned for him to propose, but she grew impatient as he seemed unwilling to do so. Unwilling to wait any longer, Guthrie decided to take action.
During their holiday in the Turks and Caicos, she informed Michael that she had made her decision, which ultimately resulted in sadness and tears.
Unbeknownst to her, Feldman carried a wedding ring in his possession, preparing to make a proposal. As the day wore on, he found himself kneeling before her and requesting her hand in matrimony, a moment that left her utterly astonished.
In March 2014, about a year after their engagement, the pair pledged their love for each other outside Guthrie’s hometown of Tucson, Arizona.
5 months following their wedding, they had their first child, a girl named Vale Guthrie Feldman, born on August 13th. Exactly two years later, on December 8th, 2016, she welcomed their second child, a son named Charles Max.
She relayed the story to Kelly, adding plenty of details.
‘I did break up with him the day we got engaged,’ she admitted to Clarkson.
At his 40th birthday celebration, the Australian-American journalist unexpectedly ran into a former Democratic political advisor. Since she was there as a friend’s plus one, it could be said that she “crashed” the party. After connecting with Feldman at the event, they started dating a few days later when he sent her an email.
She mentioned to the 56-year-old, who she had been dating for over five years, that they were considering marriage. Emphasizing their age as a reason to move quickly with their decision, she stated, “We didn’t tie the knot when we were young.
Guthrie added that during that period, her mother essentially said, “We either need to get married, or not at all. Just make a decision.” In simpler terms, it was more like, “Do something about it, or don’t do anything.
‘I kind of thought, sometimes … when you haven’t decided you’ve decided,’ she told Clarkson.
On looking back, Guthrie mentioned that she and Feldman had indeed taken their scheduled vacation to Turks and Caicos. They were simply relaxing on the windy shoreline under the blue, cloudless heavens.
She reminisced, “I never imagined we were going to get engaged. After all, we had been together for over five years, so a trip to the beach didn’t seem out of the ordinary anymore, not like it was going to be a day for getting nails done.
At that instant, she remembered ending things with him, as she believed there seemed to be no legal way to strengthen their bond at the time.
As a devoted admirer, I found myself expressing sentiments that may surprise you: “You know our bond is strong, but it seems we’ve reached an impasse that’s lasted far too long. I believe it’s best for both of us to part ways, to set each other free.” This was shared with the communications expert by the tranquil seashore.
Instead, he encouraged them to ‘spend the day pleasantly’, and Guthrie remembered feeling ‘tearful’ throughout the whole day as she doubted her choice – until things improved significantly.
She informed Clarkson that, unbeknownst to her, he had an engagement ring on him. At that moment, he had the option to discard it, since none of his friends or family were aware that he hadn’t shared his plan to propose. His parents, too, remained oblivious.
Instead of ending things right away, he chose to overlook the situation, and instead, as the sun set, he suggested, “By the way, that resort sent us some champagne. Let’s go outside and enjoy a drink together.
Since Guthrie thought they would split up when they got back home, she passionately urged them to have ‘one last celebration’ by drinking together at a bar instead.
Feldman urged her to sit and at that moment he asked the TV star to marry him.
She confessed, “Initially, I hadn’t grasped that was the question’s meaning. Eventually, he knelt down on one knee to clarify.
‘It was so shocking to me and I was so happy.’
