Paul Bettany’s “compelling” British gangster movie is now on Netflix

Paul Bettany’s British gangster movie Gangster No 1 has been released on Netflix.

2000 saw the Marvel actor take on a significant role for the first time in this movie, which garnered praise for being both brutally violent and compelling. This sentiment was echoed in its strong Rotten Tomatoes consensus.

Yesterday, the streamer made the movie available to viewers in the UK and Ireland, and it’s been quite popular, currently sitting as the second most-viewed film in the UK, just below “The Super Mario Bros Movie“.

The main character, initially a recruit, gets drawn into the world of organized crime led by a prominent figure from East London. Through this association, he ascends the ranks and achieves a significant position within the gang.

Joining Bettany, the film features Malcolm McDowell from A Clockwork Orange, David Thewlis known for Landscapers, Saffron Burrows of You, and Andrew Lincoln famous for The Walking Dead, as well as a young actor who appeared in a previous role.

Previously, it was announced that Bettany, famous for his role as Vision in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, would reprise his character in a new series on Disney+.

The actor has also been cast as composer Antonio Salieri in a new Sky TV adaptation of Amadeus.

The show centers around the life of Mozart (Will Sharpe in “The White Lotus”) and his legendary feud with Salieri, who is consumed by jealousy and anger towards the budding prodigy, viewing himself as a savior.

The show will likewise delve into Mozart’s significant connection with his forthcoming spouse, Constanze Weber (portrayed by Gabrielle Creevy in ‘In My Skin’), as she plays a pivotal role in launching his professional journey.

Bettany expressed great anticipation about collaborating with director Julian Farino, writer Joe Barton, Sky, and Will Sharpe, whom he considers to be the standout actor of their generation for this upcoming project.

Gangster No 1 is available to watch now on Netflix in the UK and Ireland.
