Jon Bernthal to reprise iconic role for new Disney+ special

Actor Jon Bernthal will once again take on the character of Frank Castle, also known as The Punisher, in an upcoming exclusive feature for Disney+’s streaming service.

At this moment, specifics about the storyline are being kept secret. However, Deadline suggests that the upcoming special will share a similar style with “Werewolf by Night” and “The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special”.

In the upcoming special, scheduled for release in 2026, Bernthal will not only play a leading role but will also collaborate in scriptwriting along with Reinaldo Marcus Green, who has been appointed as the director as well.

In 2015, Bernthal initially portrayed Frank Castle during the second installment of Netflix’s Daredevil series. Later, he took on the lead role in The Punisher, a show that streamed for two seasons on Netflix.

In the forthcoming Disney+ show titled “Daredevil: Born Again,” the character will make their next appearance. This series is scheduled to debut in the United States on March 4, with a UK premiere following on March 5.

In the sequel to the Netflix series, we find Matt Murdock, portrayed by Charlie Cox, continuing his quest for justice. Meanwhile, Wilson Fisk, previously known as The Kingpin and now running for mayor of New York City, is also in pursuit.

Cox recently shared that the show didn’t follow a straightforward route to its current state, stating: “At the time, neither Vincent nor I were entirely certain about our chosen direction, but we were willing to adapt and learn. As dedicated professionals, we were determined to maintain an open perspective.

After the writers’ and actors’ strikes occurred, the producers used this time to reassess our episodes, ultimately concluding they needed adjustments. The revised versions now align better with the type of content typically produced by Netflix.

The first three seasons of Daredevil are currently streaming on Disney+. The upcoming series, titled Daredevil: Born Again, will debut in the UK on March 5 and a day earlier in the US on March 4.
