Many shows deliver satisfying endings without overstaying their welcome. But when you really connect with a long anime series – one that has many episodes – it’s easy to wish the story never had to end.
Often, the experience of watching a long-running anime is more meaningful than the story’s ending. When a series goes on for many seasons, the finale can feel sad rather than exciting—like saying goodbye to something you love. The truly great anime, both new and classic, take viewers on incredible journeys that they often wish would never end.
Case Closed Is One of the Longest-Running Anime Series of All Time
Many anime fans fondly remember growing up with Case Closed, also known as Detective Conan. This popular mystery series has been running since the 1990s and shows no signs of stopping anytime soon. While the manga might be nearing its end, the anime will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2026, and a conclusion is still a long way off.
Despite being on the air for many years, Case Closed continues to release new episodes every week. Because the show is mostly made up of self-contained stories, it doesn’t seem likely to run out of ideas, and it has successfully stayed fresh and engaging. In Japan, Detective Conan has become a beloved part of the culture, and fans are thrilled that it will continue for the foreseeable future.
The Monogatari Series Didn’t End With the Main Storyline’s Conclusion
The Monogatari series began with its first anime in 2009. Over the years, the show followed Araragi Koyomi as he dealt with strange and supernatural events, with his personal story seemingly wrapping up in 2019 with Zoku Owarimonogatari. But even after that, the series continued beyond that main storyline’s end.
Nisio Isin continues to write the Monogatari light novels, which are currently in the Family Season. After a significant pause, Studio Shaft is now adapting them into anime again, with the Monogatari Series: Off & Monster Season bringing the story back to television in 2024. The unique and captivating world of Monogatari still has plenty of stories to tell, and fans are thrilled the series continued beyond what seemed like its ending.
Re:Zero Season 4 Isn’t the End of This Beloved Isekai Series
Most shows in the ‘isekai’ genre—where characters are transported to another world—don’t last very long, often ending after just one season. But Re:Zero is an exception, having run for ten years and with no clear end date yet. The fourth season of this popular anime recently began airing as part of the Spring 2026 schedule, and another set of episodes is already planned to start on August 12, 2026.
It’s hard to say when Re:Zero will finish its run. The original web novel and light novel series by Tappei Nagatsuki are still being written, and there are many unanswered questions and storylines that still need to be resolved. However, fans aren’t worried about it ending soon, as the show has consistently improved with each new season.
Demon Slayer’s Endgame Is Right Around the Corner
Demon Slayer has quickly become one of the most popular anime and manga series of recent times, breaking numerous records. It’s no wonder fans are hoping for it to continue indefinitely, but unfortunately, this exciting action story is nearing its conclusion.
Koyoharu Gotouge finished the Demon Slayer manga in 2020, shortly after the anime series began. Now, with the release of the amazing Infinity Castle movie in 2025, the anime is also wrapping up. However, fans can still enjoy two more Demon Slayer movies before this incredibly popular anime franchise concludes.
Haikyuu!!’s Finale Will Be Spectacular, But Fans Will Never Let The Series Go
The anime series Haikyuu!! started airing back in 2014, before Demon Slayer. Now, like Demon Slayer, it’s also nearing its end. The final installment, a movie called Haikyuu!! vs. The Little Giant, is expected to come out in 2027.
The Haikyuu!! manga is known for having a fantastic and satisfying ending, especially for a sports series. However, after following Karasuno’s team for over ten years, fans will still find it difficult to say goodbye to such a well-made and influential story.
Jujutsu Kaisen’s Anime Adaptation Might Take a Long Time to Cross the Finish Line
The anime Jujutsu Kaisen is a huge hit with modern audiences, and its latest season raised the standard for shonen anime in general. Because the show consistently surpasses expectations, fans are understandably worried about it eventually ending.
The ending of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga sparked a lot of debate, but fans still really enjoy the series. The anime is currently adapting the Culling Game arc, and after that, only the Shinjuku Showdown arc remains. However, since the second part of the Culling Game hasn’t been announced yet, it will likely take a long time for the anime to finish – mostly because of waiting for new content.
The Fate Series Is Constantly Expanding Its Universe
The Fate series began as a visual novel in 2004 and has grown into a huge franchise with many games, novels, and anime shows. While most Fate anime tell complete stories on their own, they’re even more enjoyable when you understand they’re all connected and part of a larger world featuring different Holy Grail Wars and other events.
The latest Fate anime, Fate/strange Fake, proved to be very popular. Now, fans are eagerly awaiting the next installment: a movie adaptation of Witch on the Holy Night created by the studio Ufotable, who have worked closely with Type-Moon on most of the Fate series. Given how many different stories the Fate franchise has, we can expect even more anime adaptations in the future.
Fans Are as Passionate About JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure as Ever
Originally a groundbreaking shonen manga from the 1980s, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure experienced a massive resurgence in popularity when Studio David Production began adapting the entire series from the start. Now, 14 years into this new adaptation, JJBA continues to be incredibly popular, and the adaptation of Part 7: Steel Ball Run is considered by many to be…
Each new season of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure feels fresh and original, thanks to its clever structure which keeps the story exciting and allows for creative storytelling. While it may take some time, fans can expect to see Steel Ball Run adapted into an anime, and JoJolion and The JoJoLands will likely follow after.
Pokémon Has Been Going Strong for Decades on Multiple Fronts
Pokémon, including the animated TV show and everything else related to it, was a huge part of many people’s childhoods, and a lot of those fans still enjoy it today. The creators always envisioned Pokémon as a limitless world – one that could constantly grow and change forever.
For 25 years, the Pokémon anime followed the adventures of Ash Ketchum and Pikachu. While Ash’s story ended in 2023, the series continued with Pokémon Horizons, introducing a new cast of characters. This allows a new generation to jump into the Pokémon world and gives longtime fans a way to keep enjoying the series.
One Piece Is a Grand Adventure Fans Hope Will Go on Forever
With hundreds of episodes, One Piece can seem daunting to start. But surprisingly, most fans who begin watching wish there were even more episodes! While the series has always had a clear destination, it consistently introduces exciting new places and stories, keeping things fresh and engaging.
The final part of One Piece has already lasted longer than many entire anime series. Despite its length, the story continues to become even more captivating. When One Piece eventually ends, it will mark the close of a major chapter in anime history, and it’s unlikely any other series will be able to fill the void it leaves behind.
