David Beckham Sacrifices Wine for Boss Underwear Campaign

David Beckham, known for his appreciation of high-quality wines, found himself needing to make a concession for the launch of his latest Boss underwear advertising campaign, where he bared all.

The ex-football player disclosed that he abstained from alcohol over a span of 14 weeks as part of his preparation to reach peak fitness for the photoshoot, which premiered in January 2025.

In a conversation with Bela Bajaria, the Chief Content Officer of Netflix, the 49-year-old expressed that he had told his team, “I’m not returning to my old ways.” Following this, they sealed the deal with The Boss.

In response to the kind request from my superiors, who were aware of the stress I was under at the time, I reluctantly accepted the task. Consequently, I dedicated myself to rigorous training for a period of 14 weeks. During this period, I abstained entirely from indulging in my passion for food and wine as I focused solely on the task ahead.

In 2023, a documentary about the former English team captain was released on Netflix; this same individual disclosed that the critically acclaimed series drew inspiration from Michael Jordan’s documentary, “The Last Dance.

He expressed his admiration for Michael Jordan, stating that his professional journey serves as inspiration. He considers Jordan not only a motivating figure personally but also as a successful entrepreneur and sports club owner.

However, when The Last Dance initially aired, I found myself sitting beside Victoria, pondering together about our viewing choice and mused, “What shall we watch next?

Initially, we had a minor disagreement about that topic. Suddenly, she suggested watching something instead, and afterward, she expressed her delight, saying “That was one of the best things I’ve ever, ever watched.

Refreshingly revisiting that tale sparked an inspirational thought within me: someday, I aspire to create something similar. Specifically, I yearn to produce a documentary, as this concept has intrigued us for quite some time.

At a certain moment, it became clear to me that I would need to create one myself. However, let me tell you, watching Michael’s work was simply amazing!

Although the documentary received much praise, Beckham himself confessed that he didn’t take pleasure in creating it and seriously thought about not releasing it at all.

I found myself utterly captivated as I delved into uncharted territory, encountering footage and archival materials that were entirely new to my eyes for the first time, making our conversations a bit challenging at times.

Additionally, he disclosed that it was only him who managed to persuade his wife, Victoria, to consent to a documentary about herself, which is at present being developed by Studio 99 and Dorothy Street Pictures.

In my attempt, it required a moment to persuade her to go along with it – it wasn’t a walk in the park, let me tell you. It seemed like an uphill battle, but I believe I was the one individual who managed to sway her opinion, and ultimately, I succeeded.

Approaching his 50th birthday, Beckham confessed that he’s not particularly keen on a grand celebration, but it seems Victoria might have different ideas.

It seems like there’s quite a bit of discussion in our home regarding my 50th celebration, but honestly, I’m more focused on my friends and family gathering together for a shared meal.

‘I have a passion for food and wine. My ideal gathering is one where everyone relaxes and enjoys themselves. However, it seems my wife is intent on organizing aspects of the event that I’m not particularly fond of, and unfortunately, I don’t have much control over it.’

When he isn’t working or training for a shoot, Beckham is enjoying time at home.

I’ve been watching Yellowstone again as my wife hasn’t seen it yet. My preferred movie happens to be Father of the Bride.

I always enjoy watching a particular thing with Harper, especially when they’re all gathered at the dining table and the little girl shares that she’s made a new friend. That moment really touches me.

Regarding his sense of home, Beckham stated: “Manchester has been my home for quite some time, and I’m a devoted supporter of Manchester United.

‘Miami has become something like a second home for me, as I spend a considerable amount of time there. However, London remains the place I call home.’

And as for domestic life?

‘I’m the best cook in our house, Victoria cooks toasties.’
