Azabudai Hills Gallery To Present Tomokazu Matsuyama’s ‘FIRST LAST’ Exhibition

In March, Tomokazu Matsuyama, a Japanese artist residing in New York, will reveal his latest solo exhibition titled “Tomokazu Matsuyama: FIRST LAST” in Tokyo. This event will be held at the recently reopened Azabudai Hills Gallery, and it will feature a collection of new large-scale artworks as well as approximately 40 other pieces, including “We Met Thru Match.com,” “Keep Fishin’ For Twilight,” and “Dancer,” which Matsuyama has produced over the past decade.

A notable aspect of his artwork lies in the intricately designed colors, blending cultural influences, customs, ordinary items, and both ancient and contemporary elements. This results in a vibrant mosaic that mirrors the dynamic, ever-changing fabric of modern life, inviting viewers to lose themselves in a realm awash with color. In his latest collection, “First Last,” he delves into the intriguing contradiction inherent in contemporary society, where equilibrium is maintained amidst constant struggles.

In a formal announcement, Matsuyama underlines the profound personal meaning behind the forthcoming Tokyo exhibition. With over two decades spent in New York and ties to both Japan and America, he invites visitors to immerse themselves not just as spectators, but as active participants and dialogue partners within his artistic realm. Here, they can interact with the pieces on display, forging their own relationships and connections.
