Call the Midwife fan favourite confirms “bittersweet” exit from show after much speculation
A Call the Midwife fan favourite has announced her shock exit after four years on the BBC drama.
During a conversation with Radio Times, actress Megan Cusack, known as Nurse Nancy Corrigan, announced her decision to depart from the show. In response to this news, she disclosed:
“Sometimes, you’ve got to step out of your comfort zone to grow.
“I’ve learnt so much, but I’m at the start of my career and I need to take a leap of faith.”
Cusack’s statement follows numerous fan theories about her role in the series, sparked by the events of her character’s storyline in season 14 premiere, where she departed Poplar with her groom-to-be Roger Nobel (Conor O’Donnell) and daughter Colette (Francesca Fullilove).
I’ve found myself absent from the show lately, as I’ve taken up a fresh opportunity working at a tranquil rural hospital. This role comes complete with on-site living quarters, making it an ideal fit for my current lifestyle.
At the outset of the new season, Cusack spoke about their rapid romance, sparked during the double-episode Christmas special, to the media saying:
It was delightful. I hadn’t anticipated that Nancy would experience a romantic relationship. Frankly, I never imagined it would happen for her.
Later on, she commented that “[Roger] is an enjoyable, splendid individual who is kind to both [Nancy] and Colette.”]
The actress has opened up about what the show meant to her and how she felt about leaving.
Cusack said to Radio Times, ‘It’s a mix of sweetness and bitterness,'” or simply, “Cusack told Radio Times, ‘It’s both wonderful and sad.’
However, considering the prospect of missing out on the sight of Tim from the grip crew, strumming his guitar from his van and singing to people early in the morning at 6:30, it truly feels as if we’re all part of one big family.
The news suggests that, following his confirmation to join “Casualty”, the future of character actor Olly Rix from “Matthew” remains uncertain.
In the final episode of “Call the Midwife,” it is revealed that Nurse Nancy is coming back to Poplar for her wedding, as she prepares to tie the knot.
Call the Midwife airs on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
