Lester Holt will depart ‘NBC Nightly News’ this summer
This summer, Lester Holt will conclude his tenure as the anchor for “NBC Nightly News,” thereby becoming the most recent notable figure in journalism to step down from their position.
As a movie buff putting it in my own words, I’d say: “Hey folks! It’s me, Holt. After much thought, I’ve decided to step away from the limelight on NBC News’ flagship program. But don’t worry, I’m not completely disappearing – you’ll still find me anchoring our gripping true crime series ‘Dateline.’ In fact, I’ll be taking on a larger role there.
Holt penned a message, which was acquired by The Times, stating that after 10 years, or 17 years considering weekends, it’s time for him to leave his position as Nightly News anchor. It has been an immense privilege to work alongside each of you daily, always keeping journalism as our guiding star and viewers as the focus of all our efforts.

The reporter based in Atlanta will frequently appear on the NBC News show that airs on various television networks.
Currently, NBC News hasn’t announced a replacement for Holt. One potential contender for the position is Tom Llamas, who serves as the anchor for the nightly news broadcast on NBC News Now’s streaming platform.
In the past couple of months, another individual, Holt, is set to depart from his role as evening news anchor. Notably, Norah O’Donnell vacated her position on the “CBS Evening News” back in January, marking the end of her five-year tenure.
It appears that Holt’s departure might not be entirely voluntary, as there may be an effort by NBC News management to lower the substantial compensation package associated with his role. Similar to Hoda Kotb, a popular host on NBC’s “Today,” who left in January following the network’s attempt to reduce her salary in contract negotiations.
In June 2015, Holt assumed the position of “NBC Nightly News” host, taking over from Brian Williams who was suspended due to fabrications regarding his coverage of the Iraq war. Prior to this, Holt had been anchoring the weekend edition of “NBC Nightly News” and regularly stood in for Williams. His seamless transition ensured that the program consistently ranked either first or second in viewership among adults aged 25-54, a demographic highly sought after by advertisers for news programming.
