Pacific heartbreak as T1, DRX fight for Masters Bangkok playoffs
Supporters of teams from the Pacific region will experience a mix of excitement and sadness because T1 and DRX are playing each other in a crucial game that decides who gets a chance to compete in the Masters Bangkok playoffs.
As a dedicated Pacific fan, I found myself on the edge of my seat as two teams from our region, T1 and DRX, battled it out for one of the final playoff spots at VCT Masters Bangkok. Let’s relive the thrilling encounter between T1 and DRX in the Swiss Stage of Masters Bangkok right here.
T1 vs DRX: A bittersweet matchup
In the competition known as Masters Bangkok’s Swiss Stage, both teams are evenly matched with scores of 1-1. A defeat at this point would lead to their exit from the tournament, but a victory would secure their place in the playoff round.
Initially, DRX entered the tournament as the top seed from the Pacific, with T1 following closely as the second seed. Interestingly, DRX boasts an unbeaten 7-0 record against T1 in their previous encounters. However, due to the significant implications at stake during their international matchup, this encounter carries a mix of excitement and sadness for fans from the Pacific region.
One possibility is: Pacific’s team is guaranteed a spot in the playoffs, but on the other side, friendly fire could knock out either of the teams involved.

Game 1
On their chosen map Fracture, DRX commenced with swift strokes. They captured the first four rounds, causing T1 to call for a break just before round 5. It appeared as though the pause rejuvenated DRX, giving T1 a glimmer of hope. The remainder of the half saw a more balanced competition, but DRX managed to maintain their lead at 7-5.
On the offensive side, Team 1 kept whittling down DRX’s edge. They effortlessly seized the pistol round and the ensuing buy advantage round, tying the game up. However, DRX managed to gain an edge again due to Flashback’s sly defuse. Yet, their lead didn’t last long as Team 1 quickly matched it in the subsequent round.
T1 kept pushing forward with their advantage, but DRX stood firm and resisted being backed into a tight spot in their chosen map. Impressive play from Meteor on Vyse helped T1 secure the map win, 13-11.
Game 2
In the kickoff of their map selection, I found myself feeling quite confident about T1’s performance. The momentum they built up in the previous map was evidently carried forward, leading them to an impressive 8-4 scoreline at half-time. Their winning streak spanned over five consecutive rounds!
In the heat of the match during the pistol round of the second half, we extended our advantage significantly, pushing ourselves to 10 rounds while DRX remained at only 4 on T1’s bonus. Despite having a slightly weaker buy, we managed to secure the bonus, putting us just two rounds away from qualifying for the Masters Bangkok playoffs. Our 12th round was flawless and our final moves were as effortless as ever.
In a 13-4 victory, T1 ended their losing streak against DRX, securing their spot in the playoff stage of the Masters Bangkok tournament.
