Robert Irwin Shares Heartwarming Tribute to Late Dad Steve Irwin
In the latest episode of The Project, Robert Irwin reminisced about his earliest recollections of his deceased father, Steve Irwin.
In a heartwarming reminiscence, the 21-year-old host of I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here shared how Steve, who passed away in 2006, used to give Robert and his sister Bindi a fun ride on his motorbike every morning.
Robert said these little trips would be capped off with a visit to the ice cream shop.
On the day following what would have been Steve’s 63rd birthday, February 22, the Wildlife Champion reminisced about a cherished moment.
In his tribute on The Project, Robert expressed that it continually astounds him to witness the worldwide response and influence my father still holds today.
‘It’s very, very special.’

Asked to share his ‘earliest memory’ Robert was quick to share a sweet story.
My first memory of my father is that every morning, regardless of rain, hail, or sunshine, he’d take Bindi and me for a ride on the front of his motorbike to Australia Zoo and we’d always end up with an ice cream afterward,” he shared.
I was recently on a motorbike, coated with ice cream, thoroughly enjoying every moment.
The Crocodile Hunter tragically died in 2006 at the age of 44 after being struck by a stingray.
On Saturday, Bindi, Robert’s 26-year-old sister, posted an old picture of their father and her on Facebook as a memory.
Back then, as a smitten admirer, I couldn’t help but be captivated by a heartwarming snapshot. There was little Bindi, my idol from a tender age, planting a sweet kiss on her dad’s cheek. As for Steve, he wore an expression that radiated pure, unadulterated joy – the bliss of parenthood, perfectly encapsulated in a single moment.
Captioning the adorable photo, Bindi remembered Steve as an ‘incredible dad.’
‘Happy Birthday, Dad,’ Bindi wrote.

1. Globally, your legacy will stand as that of the ultimate Wildlife Champion. In my eyes, however, you remain an awe-inspiring father, and now, a beacon of guidance for our family.
OR
2. To the world, you are immortalized as the greatest Wildlife Warrior. But to me, you will always be the most extraordinary dad, and now, a guiding light for our family.
‘I love you and I miss you every day.’
The post was met with a flurry of well wishes and tributes from fans.
One admirer stated that your father is lovingly caring for all pets who have passed on, praising their beauty, and offering comforting affection, providing them with a peaceful sanctuary to flourish once more.
A different person added: ‘What a lovely experience for all to partake in. Thanks, Bindi. Wishing your dad a heavenly happy birthday from above.’ (This version keeps the same sentiment but changes some words and adds a bit of poetic flair.)
In simpler terms, many people admired Bindi and Robert for carrying on with their father’s passionate conservation work.
‘He would be so proud of you and Robert! His legacy will forever live,’ they wrote.
Bindi also shared a tribute to Steve on Instagram, posting another sweet throwback to her Story.

The image displayed Bindi, wearing swim floats, beaming with joy, snuggled up on Steve’s lap, nestled near a tranquil waterbody during sunset.
Both dad and daughter were beaming in the photo, clearly cherishing the time spent together.
‘Happy birthday, dad,’ she simply captioned the heartwarming photo.
Robert, who was just two at the time of Steve’s shock passing also paid tribute to his late father.
Taking to Instagram, he shared a throwback image that showed Steve well and truly in his element.
In this image, Steve is pictured without shoes, standing on a gravelly riverbank with an unyielding gaze. He’s nonchalantly cradling a tiny crocodile in his palms.
Or, for a more conversational tone:
Steve was snapped barefoot on a sandy riverbank, giving a stern look while casually clutching a petite crocodile in hand.
Robert captioned the image simply: ‘Always my greatest inspiration.’
Robert’s post was also met with a flurry of comments from friends and followers.
One person said, “Farewell to the individual who sparked my passion for nature,” while another added affectionately, “He’s not only inspired countless others but remains an inspiration today; truly, he’s a source of blessings for our world!
‘You’ve truly embodied what a legend represents, just as he did. Carry that radiance with you on your path.’
On September 4th, 2006, Steve “The Crocodile Hunter,” who was only 44 years old, passed away off the coast of Queensland. His death occurred during the filming of a nature documentary, when he was tragically stabbed in the chest by a stingray.
Bindi had just turned eight when he sadly died, whereas Robert was only a few months away from celebrating his third birthday.
Despite his departure, his impact lingers on as his family carries forward his cause of preserving and championing wildlife, not just at Australia Zoo but also in various other locations.
