Timothée Chalamet’s SAG Awards Line Flub: ‘Shoulda Done Rehearsal’
At just his age, Timothée Chalamet has earned two Best Actor Oscar nominations like James Dean did long ago – quite an achievement! However, even someone as talented as him can have the occasional rough day.
At the 2025 SAG Awards, while presenting his film A Complete Unknown with costars Elle Fanning, Monica Barbaro, and Edward Norton, the 29-year-old actor stumbled over his lines as he tried to read from a teleprompter during the event.
He started off by saying that, similar to what David Lynch stated about Bob Dylan, he seems to have found a rich source of inspiration and just continues to move forward. After this, he paused for quite some time.
After a brief pause, the Dune star, apparently expecting another performer to take the floor, amusingly discovered that it was actually still his time to share his thoughts.
He made a joke about not having done a rehearsal after he made a mistake, which caused laughter from Fanning, Barbaro, and everyone else in the room.
Later on, he continued with the remaining portion of the prepared speech, explaining that his Bob Dylan biography would follow the origins of the renowned rock and folk music legend, all the way back to Greenwich Village.
Born in New York City, the actor up for the Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role award chose to accompany his mother, Nicole Flender, as his guest instead.
In addition to the collective recognition for the ensemble of A Complete Unknown, Norton and Barbaro have also been nominated individually for their respective performances.
Timothée Chalamet’s partner, Kylie Jenner, was not present at the event on the day it was announced that her longtime friend and hairstylist, Jesus Guerrero, had tragically passed away at the age of 34.
She sorrowfully shared that her brother had passed away all too swiftly and without warning, though she chose not to reveal the specific reason behind his demise in public.
According to body language expert Judi James, Jenner’s absence appeared to affect Chalamet.
As a lifestyle expert, I noticed that Timothée Chalamet seemed to be lacking the comforting gestures typically provided by Kylie, who had been a consistent figure at past award ceremonies – standing faithfully by his side, holding his hand, and providing him with reassuring pats and strokes to boost his confidence. This is something I’ve observed in my professional observations.
They went on to say: ‘He first sauntered onto the red carpet with a self-assured strut, reminiscent of a gunslinger, and his leather Western outfit added to this picture. But when it came to their movie’s rehearsed interview segment, he overlooked his cue for the second part, leading to an uncomfortable pause and chuckles from the other cast members.’
In summary, James noted that the actor’s body language evolved subtly. Initially, he stood casually and confidently, even keeping one hand in his pocket. However, this relaxed demeanor transformed into a more hesitant stance, as he crossed his hands behind his back.

This year at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, “Wicked: Part One” is in the lead with five nominations, including recognitions for Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.
At the SAG Awards, the group of actors are jointly recognized for an esteemed award considered the pinnacle of the evening – the exceptional ensemble performance in a film.
Wicked is up against some tough competition, having been nominated alongside A Complete Unknown featuring Chalamet, among other titles.
In a similar vein, the film “Conclave,” directed by Ralph Fiennes, and the award-winning movie “Anora” featuring Mikey Madison and Yura Borisov are also in contention for the same prize.

In this category of outstanding ensembles in a movie, we find the Spanish-language musical “Emilia Perez,” which stars Selena Gomez, Zoe Saldana, and the contentious lead actress, Karla Sofia Gascon.
The Spanish-language musical “Emilia Perez” completes the list of top ensembles in a film category with its impressive cast that includes Selena Gomez, Zoe Saldana, and the disputed leading lady, Karla Sofia Gascon.
On Saturday night, the awards ceremony presented by SAG-AFTRA stands alone as the exclusive event during the Hollywood season that specifically honors actors.
More than 130,000 union members cast their votes for the 13 awards that were due to be presented during a two-hour ceremony on Saturday.
Notable celebrities such as Pamela Anderson (for The Last Showgirl), Demi Moore (for The Substance), and Zoe Saldana (for Emilia Perez) have earned nominations in various categories.
I’m fortunate to be included in two esteemed groups – first, as a member of the ensemble for the series Emilia Perez, and second, as part of the talented cast for the sitcom Only Murders In The Building.
In the running for the prestigious title of ‘Best Ensemble in a Comedy Series’ are shows such as “Only Murders In The Building”, alongside competitors like “The Bear”, “Hacks”, “Abbott Elementary” and “Shrinking”.
Determining the best drama series ensemble is no simple task, as heavyweights such as Shogun, Bridgerton, Slow Horses, and Day of the Jackal all vie for the title.
Previously, it was revealed that the SAG Life Achievement Award would be presented to Jane Fonda, marking her as the 60th recipient of this prestigious honor.
SAG-AFTRA president Fran Drescher, most recognized for her role in the 90’s sitcom “The Nanny,” commended Jane as a ‘pioneer and an exceptional artist.’
She praised Jane as an “energetic influence who has molded the terrain of entertainment, activism, and culture with undying enthusiasm.
This year, it was necessary to cancel the official SAG Awards nomination event due to the destructive wildfires in Los Angeles.
At this year’s SAG Awards, Kristen Bell is both the host and a nominee for Best Actress in a Comedy Series. She’s up against some tough competition: Jean Smart for Hacks, Ayo Edebiri and Liza Colon-Zayas from The Bear, and Quinta Brunson for Abbott Elementary.
