Elly Jackson’s Shocking Life Changes: From La Roux to Solo Struggles and Beyond
In 2009, La Roux‘s vibrant music seemed like a refreshing breeze in the musical environment.
The pair initially came together about two years ago, through the introduction of a mutual acquaintance, consisting of singer Elly Jackson and producer Ben Langmaid.
Their career skyrocketed after the release of their second single, “In For The Kill,” which was later succeeded by the top-charting hit, “Bulletproof.
Back in 2014, during our journey promoting our second album “Trouble In Paradise,” Elly and I found ourselves on different paths creatively. This led us to part ways amicably, allowing each of us to explore new avenues musically.
At the given moment, he disclosed that the reason was due to working with the second album’s writer and engineer, Ian Sherwin, who he referred to as being ‘not very intelligent.’
Instead, Elly shared with NME that they didn’t have much mutual comprehension regarding the creation of new music.
She told him about some unusual disco tunes, but he was quite open about not appreciating them.
‘I felt there was limited comprehension between us. Occasionally it seemed like we were on the same page, but upon seeing the work produced, I didn’t believe we were truly aligned.’
After choosing to continue as a single performer, Elly opted to keep her stage name. However, she faced challenges with record labels and personal conflicts that ultimately resulted in a prolonged break from her career.
Over these past times, I’ve shared my journey and insights from being an artist within the industry, encompassing my hesitancy to define my personal identity, particularly regarding my sexuality, amidst widespread curiosity.
She previously talked about her experience collaborating with rap artist Kanye West, which she characterized as ‘troubling and unnerving’.
Back in 2010, I had the pleasure of working alongside a talented individual on my Grammy-winning hit “All of the Lights.” Fast forward to that same year, and the roles were reversed as he graced a remix of my debut single, “In For The Kill,” by La Roux. It’s always exciting when creative minds come together!
When questioned about collaborating with the rapper by The Sunday Times, Elly responded bluntly: ‘No, I have no affinity for him. He’s not well-liked.’
It emerged later that their shared acquaintance had made her issue an apology to Kanye, following her insult, by means of a written message.
2020 saw a conversation unfold between the child of well-known actress Trudie Goodwin (famous for portraying Sergeant June Ackland in The Bill) and actor Kit Jackson, regarding their sexuality. They shared that although they identify as gay, they choose not to be defined by specific labels.
The artist shared with The Independent her viewpoint that numerous genders exist, and she expresses indifference towards being misgendered since she considers it unimportant and beyond her level of pettiness.
Regarding her gender identity as female, she communicated to the press: ‘I don’t mind if someone refers to me as a giraffe, sir, madam, boy, child, binary, non-binary. I couldn’t care less. I won’t be offended because I am aware of who I am.’
Let’s focus on addressing that issue instead. I don’t think it’s healthy to rely solely on others for self-acceptance, like needing a stranger to validate my identity. I find myself perplexed by this idea.
2020 marked La Roux’s comeback to the music world, as she released her third studio album titled “Supervision.”

Moving ahead to the year 2025, Elly, currently residing with equal footing in Los Angeles and London, continues to indulge in her favorite pursuit: live performances.
She’s scheduled to perform at several intimate shows throughout Los Angeles in March, starting from March 15 at The Sun Rose venue in West Hollywood.
