Magic Chess: Go Go Review – More than just a cute MLBB spin-off
Title under review: “Magic Chess: Go Go” – a strategy game developed by Vizta Games, a subsidiary of MOONTON Games. This game is actually the independent version of the well-liked “Magic Chess Mode” from “Mobile Legends: Bang Bang”, which started as a temporary mode but gained so much popularity that it was made permanent. In this review, I will express my thoughts on this sequel and provide an unbiased rating.
In this assessment, I delved into Magic Chess: Go Go on the Motorola G32 device, accumulating a total playtime of thirty hours. This extensive engagement allowed me to comprehensively traverse and appreciate all aspects of the game, thereby establishing a robust basis for my detailed evaluation. I am eager to express my opinions, emphasizing the game’s virtues and suggesting improvements that could optimize the gaming experience even further.
Experience the thrill of Magic chess gameplay now with added features and content
Let’s delve into the gameplay of Magic Chess: Go Go, a game that will captivate you if you are already familiar with Magic Chess or similar genres. From the get-go, its engaging gameplay and high replay value will keep you hooked.
As a devoted fan, I must say that while the fundamental gameplay echoes the Magic Chess mode from MLBB, it’s far from identical. It’s packed with fresh features that keep me on my toes, such as the thrilling Go Go Cards, an array of new Commanders, the intriguing Commander Star Trail, a host of new heroes, and strategic synergies. Just like before, it’s all about outsmarting seven other players in chess-like battles and emerging victorious.

Since I’ve poured countless hours into the initial Magic Chess Mode, advancing to exceptionally high rankings and dominating the local leaderboards, I’m thrilled to discover that a new game has been developed specifically for this mode.
As a gamer, I’m really digging the new Commander Trail system and the intricate mechanics that come with it. Unlike in Magic Chess mode of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, where you can only choose from three abilities, I appreciate that Commanders here have both passive and active skills, as well as emblems. Even though some players might not be fond of all the synergies, I find myself enjoying this fresh direction.
The game becomes even more engaging and tough as new Commanders, heroes, and gear get added. I’ve been enjoying myself immensely using Lukas and a team composition of 4 Guardians, 4 Marksmen, 2 Summoners, and 2 Abyss units, usually taking first place in most matches. The Chibi Commanders are incredibly cute, bringing a delightful charm to the gameplay.

What makes the game more enjoyable for me is the addition of Go Go Cards. These cards introduce a fresh take on strategy and exhilaration to the gameplay. The game offers different types of GoGo Cards, categorized as Blue, Purple, and Orange.
During “Creep rounds”, you have the opportunity to select from two cards, and you may refresh this selection up to twice if the initial cards don’t meet your expectations. However, rest assured that every card carries significant weight, offering distinct benefits to enhance your gameplay experience, potentially altering the course of your match.
The game offers several game modes, catering to every type of players
Instead of just offering a ranked-only experience like Magic Chess in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Magic Chess: Go Go has expanded its offerings to include modes similar to MLBB. These include the relaxing Classic mode for casual games, the intense Ranked mode for competitive players, and Custom mode, which allows you to compete with friends or prepare for tournaments. This last mode supports up to 6 referees for added flexibility.

This enhancement significantly boosts the appeal of Magic Chess, particularly for avid Go Go enthusiasts and those who frequently engage with the Magic Chess mode. It expands the fun elements within the gameplay they cherish.
The game offers various modes to accommodate all kinds of players: from those who enjoy playing casually without the pressure of dropping ranks, to competitive players striving to move up the leaderboard, and those looking forward to future tournaments using the Custom mode. Similar to Mobile Legends Bang Bang, you won’t receive any rewards if you engage in Custom mode play with friends.
Charming Chibi characters, impressive visuals, and soothing audio enhance the experience
As you become accustomed to the gameplay, it becomes incredibly hard to resist, but what truly sets it apart is its calming music, elevating the experience. The developers have meticulously crafted every sound effect during matches, ensuring that the heroes in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang emit realistic sounds and comments, creating a remarkably immersive atmosphere. This level of detail deserves recognition.

Additionally, the soundtrack complements the stunning visuals perfectly. The game’s visuals and artistic style are commendable, showcasing appealing character designs for the Commanders and a painting-like environment design for the chessboards, reminiscent of the Magic Chess mode.
In a charming twist, the miniaturized characters from Mobile Legends Battle Arena, now portrayed as Commanders, are incredibly cute and bound to win hearts over. Transforming a gameplay style into a separate game, boasting stunning graphics and captivating sound, is truly commendable.
MCGG offers a clean and smooth UI similar to MLBB, with simple select and drag controls
The game boasts an uncluttered, user-friendly interface akin to Mobile Legends Bang Bang, enabling seamless navigation among sections such as Events, Shop, Star Trail, Draw options, various game modes, and additional settings – all without the sensation of being overburdened or overwhelmed.
The developers have truly excelled in creating compact, attractive icons that match the game’s theme, as well as utilizing suitable fonts which significantly improve the game’s overall visual appeal.

I’ve always appreciated the straightforwardness of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB), which stands out compared to many other MOBA games with their complex, cluttered elements and features. Instead, MLBB maintains a user-friendly interface, and Magic Chess: Go Go is doing an excellent job of continuing this streamlined approach.
You can enjoy free-to-play gameplay without spending on IAPs
The game additionally offers an in-game marketplace where you can procure Commanders, including the recently introduced characters such as Lukas, Guinevere, Moskov, and Nana. Besides these charming personalities, you can also acquire different Commander outfits. Normal skins are available for 199 Diamonds, while Special skins cost 499 Diamonds.
The game has an in-game store where you can buy Commanders like Lukas, Guinevere, Moskov, and Nana, as well as various Commander outfits. The standard skins are priced at 199 Diamonds, while the special ones go for 499 Diamonds.

The store offers four unique chessboards, priced at 899 Diamonds each. Yet, I’m not particularly fond of them. Additionally, there are other handy items such as Rename Cards and Chess Point Deluxe Pack, but you can still have a great gameplay experience without purchasing any additional items.
Regarding the Go Go Pass, it’s not overly beneficial unless you’re interested in gathering the unique skins. For acquiring Commanders, you have two options: accumulate Chess Points and purchase them directly, or you might get them from the Commander Star Trail. This way, you can enjoy the game without having to spend any money.
Final Verdict
Magic Chess: Go Go – An Engrossing and Hard-to-Resist Game! While it might take a while to get accustomed to the fundamentals, once you do, you’re in for a blast! It brings an upgraded experience of Magic Chess mode, brimming with fresh features and content that enrich the gameplay by introducing additional layers of depth and strategy.
After extensively playing Magic Chess, I must commend the developers for their impressive work on this game. Despite it not being globally available as of now, I’ve been thoroughly enjoying my time with it. As I mentioned earlier, the Go Go Cards, the introduction of new Commanders, and the Commander Star Trail system have been particularly engaging and entertaining for me.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but rave about Magic Chess: Go Go! It’s simply irresistible with its lovable Chibi interpretations of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang heroes. But what really draws me in are the captivating game modes – Classic, Ranked, and Custom. If you’re seeking a thrilling yet enjoyable gaming experience within this genre, Magic Chess is an absolute must-play!
