DIRT ON THE DIRECTOR
Director Ali Abbasi has responded following accusations of inappropriate behavior towards a prominent actor, which apparently resulted in his separation from influential talent agencies such as Creative Artists Agency (CAA) and Entertainment 360.
44-year-old filmmaker from Iran and Denmark, asserted that the reported event and subsequent career issues were unconnected matters. He addressed this dispute publicly in a statement issued on Saturday.
In simpler terms, ‘Abbasi acknowledged that his actions might have made someone feel uneasy, regardless of his intentions. He genuinely apologizes for this. He had spent time with this person on several occasions and believed they had a good rapport.’
In retrospect, he shared that when he encountered him at the Gold Globe party, he was eager to rekindle their connection. However, his friendly action – a pat on the backside – might have come off as too familiar. He emphasized that it was meant to be playful and in no way of a sexual nature.
It didn’t take long for me to understand that I had underestimated the circumstances. On the spot, I offered an immediate apology, and the next day, my apology was reinforced by my delegates.
Regardless of Abbasi’s efforts to minimize the issue, Deadline published on February 21st that he severed ties with CAA and Management 360 following accusations of inappropriately touching an actor while under the influence, as reported by sources.

In his statement, Abbasi clarified, ‘It’s untrue that I was dismissed by my agent because of our conversation. My choice to move on was a well-considered, long-term career decision, not influenced by immediate factors.’
‘I believe in taking accountability for my actions; I made a mistake, I apologized and have learned a valuable life lesson. I remain grateful for the incredible work of our cast, crew and supporters on The Apprentice, and I hope the focus stays on their achievements.’
Previously speaking with Deadline about his recent career shift, Abbasi stated: “I’ve decided it’s time for a change in my professional path. I want to express my gratitude towards CAA and Entertainment 360 for their hard work, especially their dedication to ‘The Apprentice’, a project I continue to be extremely proud of. I’m excited about the future and will share more details when it’s appropriate.
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I must share an intriguing tidbit about “The Apprentice,” a series that delves into the early journey of business magnate Donald Trump. Remarkably, this show has earned two Oscar nominations! Sebastian Stan was recognized in the Best Actor category, while Jeremy Strong received a nod for Best Supporting Actor. Quite the achievement, wouldn’t you agree?
Abbasi is up for an Independent Spirit Award for best director this weekend.
Abbasi’s filmography also includes Holy Spider (2022), Border (2018), and Shelley (2016).
Additionally, he was responsible for overseeing the final two installments of the inaugural season of HBO’s hit show “The Last of Us,” which features Pedro Pascal in the lead role.
The Apprentice has faced legal hurdles from Trump’s attorneys seeking to block its release.
Regardless of its difficulties, the film – where Sebastian plays Trump and Jeremy portrays Republican strategist Roy Cohn – has predominantly earned favorable critiques.
The movie chronicling Trump’s property business has become embroiled in a whirlwind of media controversy following his own criticism.

The content encompasses disputed sequences, such as one depicting Donald Trump allegedly sexually harassing his ex-wife, Ivana Trump, and another showing him undergoing liposuction and surgery to hide a developing bald patch on the back of his head.
Trump criticized the movie as “phony” and “poorly tasteful” on Truth Social, implying that he hopes it will fail.
He stated that it was an inexpensive, damaging, and politically distasteful piece, published just prior to the 2024 Presidential Election, with the intention of undermining what he considers to be the most remarkable political movement in the history of our nation.
Meanwhile Abbasi said he considered casting a woman in the lead role.
Initially, before my conversations with Sebastian began, I contemplated whether an actress might be more suitable to portray Trump. This idea emerged because I found something unusual and out-of-place in his body language, which I wished to explore and exaggerate. We experimented with this concept.
In conversation with DailyMail.com, Abbasi declined to name the actresses he approached regarding the Trump role in film, but he did mention that he sought advice from Cate Blanchett, praising her for delivering an outstanding performance as Bob Dylan.
In the end, he dropped the idea, as it ‘became too gimmicky.’
