Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher, will be back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2026 with his own dedicated series.
Marvel Studios has released the first trailer for The Punisher: One Last Kill, a new special presentation coming to Disney+ next month. This is the first such presentation since The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special aired in 2022, and it features Jon Bernthal reprising his role as the Punisher. You can watch the trailer below.
As a huge MCU fan, I was really impressed to learn just how involved Jon Bernthal was with the recent special presentation. He wasn’t just acting – he was a real driving force behind the scenes too! He served as an executive producer and actually co-wrote the script alongside the director, Reinaldo Marcus Green. It’s cool to see them teaming up again, as they previously collaborated on We Own This City, and clearly have a strong working relationship.
I was so excited to see Curtis Hoyle back! It’s awesome that the MCU is starting to pull in characters from the old Netflix Marvel shows. Jason R. Moore, who played Curtis in The Punisher series, reprised his role in One Last Kill. It’s been a while since we last saw him – it was back in season two of The Punisher before that show ended. It feels like the universe is really connecting now!
Viewers last saw Frank Castle at the conclusion of Daredevil: Born Again season 1, when he was captured by Wilson Fisk. He managed to escape by the end of the season, and is currently unaccounted for in season 2, which began streaming on March 24th. Although The Punisher: One Last Kill is planned for release after the current season, Jon Bernthal will not be reprising his role in any of the upcoming episodes.
So, I’ve been hearing a lot about the upcoming Disney+ special, The Punisher: One Last Kill, and Marvel’s teasing a really interesting turn for Frank Castle. Apparently, he’s looking for something beyond just getting revenge, which is a big shift. What’s pulling him back into the fray? Well, the buzz is that we’re going to meet Ma Gnucci, a powerful and dangerous villain from the comics, and she seems to be the key. It sounds like this special isn’t just about action, but also about Frank trying to find some kind of purpose, and Ma Gnucci is going to be a major obstacle in that journey.
Although Disney hasn’t officially announced it, a woman using a wheelchair was filmed on set with Jon Bernthal, who plays the Punisher. Fans think this woman might be Ma Gnucci. The new trailer for The Punisher: One Last Kill also features a character who could be our first good look at the villain. You can watch the trailer below.
Jon Bernthal is scheduled to reprise his role as the Punisher in multiple Marvel Cinematic Universe projects for 2026. He’ll appear in both a new Punisher film, titled The Punisher: One Last Kill, and return as Frank Castle in the upcoming Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie. The events of Spider-Man: Brand New Day will take place after the second season of Daredevil: Born Again and any related MCU special presentations.
The Punisher: One Last Kill will be released on May 12 at 9 PM ET/6 PM PT on Disney+.
