Caroline Flack’s Heartbreaking Final Messages to Laura Whitmore Revealed

When Caroline Flack found out that her popular Love Island role was given to her younger, fair-haired competitor Laura Whitmore instead, she felt deeply upset.

A few days ago, Caroline received a challenging conversation with some top executives at ITV, during which they informed her that she would no longer be permitted to carry on presenting the dating program she had hosted for five consecutive seasons, effectively ending her role as its main representative.

It became evident why she left: given the circumstances, as Caroline, aged 40, was recently accused of assault after an altercation involving her boyfriend Lewis Burton, during which she struck him with a lamp following a heated, envious dispute late at night.

There was a lot of discussion about who might replace her: was it going to be Irish model Laura or the comparatively young Maya Jama, who is currently hosting?

After hearing that Laura secured the job, Caroline turned to WhatsApp and shared her dismay with her friends by leaving them voice messages.

A companion of the deceased TV host expressed, “It shattered her spirit,” as Caroline held onto the dream that the accusations would be withdrawn, allowing her to carry on with her career.

Afterward, it was Laura who got the position. This made Caroline quite unhappy. Although they knew each other somewhat, they weren’t close friends, but what upset Caroline most was losing the job to Laura. Caroline felt enraged and deeply distressed by this turn of events.

The loss of the job she cherished, coupled with the fear of public embarrassment during a court trial for a crime, eventually pushed Caroline into deep depression, leading to her tragic suicide on February 15, 2020.

Following her daughter’s passing, Christine, who was deeply saddened, expressed quite vividly that it was a ‘distressing’ experience to witness Laura taking on her daughter’s responsibilities.

She mentioned that she watched Love Island because Carrie was featured on it. Now, it feels awkward when the commercial appears and the new girl resembles her predecessor, wearing almost the same dress and striking a similar pose. In her opinion, ITV2 might have approached this transition with more consideration to show respect.

Last week, as Laura – a 39-year-old ex-MTV showbiz reporter – posted old messages with the late Caroline on Instagram, marking the fifth anniversary of her passing, her friends were left in surprise.

Alongside an old picture of them both, Laura shared a collection of messages they exchanged during the five-week period, starting from when Laura received the Love Island job offer, up until Caroline’s tragic passing.

In the contacts list on Laura’s phone, under the name ‘Flacky’ (a nickname often used for Caroline among their circle), it was clear that Caroline had put aside her dignity, and sincerely hoped for Laura’s well-being.

People who knew her would agree that each word she wrote likely caused pain. She penned, “I hope you’re excelling at your task… I wouldn’t want someone else in that role.

After securing the part, Laura privately informed Caroline prior to its announcement, assuring her that she would strive to deliver an outstanding performance.

Caroline simply replied with a red heart emoji and said: ‘I’m glad it’s you.’

Laura expressed her heartfelt appreciation for Caroline’s support in a lengthy caption accompanying the post. She confessed that revisiting their emotional farewell conversation left a deep impact on her.

This month, I acquired a new phone, and while attempting to retrieve WhatsApp messages from the cloud, an abundance of old messages appeared. Messages that I believed were long gone for several years unexpectedly resurfaced. The moment was quite emotional for me.

I’m referencing some personal, previously private messages that I believe offer a charming perspective of Caroline. As a result, I have decided to make them public.

People who know Caroline considered her decision as completely uncalled-for or unnecessary. To some, it appeared as entirely inappropriate and surprising.

It was puzzling as to why Laura would disclose those messages. After all, Caroline’s closest friends would never make public something as personal as their private correspondence, so it seemed unusual for Laura to do the same.

Caroline was a compassionate person who wouldn’t have wished for Laura to misjudge her feelings towards her. However, the loss of the job left Caroline distraught as she cherished it deeply. It appears rather inappropriate that Laura has broadcasted these thoughts publicly, and people find it hard to comprehend why.

It is not typically assumed that a text sent to someone will become publicly accessible, not even after five years have passed. Despite Laura admitting that the messages were meant to be kept private, she still chose to make them public.

‘It’s hard to see of what benefit this had to Caroline on such a poignant day.’

It’s becoming a topic of discussion among many if Caroline and the tragic events surrounding her demise will be allowed to rest in tranquility.

Without a doubt, Christine, her mother, doesn’t seem to give up on seeking answers as she persistently pursues the truth.

In the chilly month of December 2019, my life took an unexpected turn for the worse. You see, I found myself entangled in a troubling situation involving Burton, a charismatic 27-year-old ex-tennis player and model who had captured my heart. One fateful night, a heated altercation between us escalated to the point where he felt compelled to contact the authorities, claiming I had struck him with a lamp in my apartment located in the vibrant Islington district of north London.

After the incident where Burton sustained minor wounds, Caroline inflicted cuts on her wrists, causing her room to be splattered with blood. People who know her claim she became extremely agitated when the police arrived, a reaction that was captured on their bodycams.

Following her hospital visit, she subsequently went to a north London police station. Initially, they informed her that no charges would be pressed and she’d be free to go with a warning. However, three hours later, she broke down in tears to a friend on the phone, explaining that she was, in fact, being charged for the attack.

Christine disagrees with that decision, as she recently disclosed that the Independent Office of Police Conduct suggested the Metropolitan Police reopen their investigation into the case this year. The watchdog recommended that the police’s Directorate of Professional Standards question an officer who was present during Caroline’s arrest.

It is reported that he played a role in challenging the Crown Prosecution Service’s choice to merely warn her for assaulting Burton by overturning their decision.

The trial date was scheduled for March 4, 2020, and Caroline anxiously contemplated the possibility of the police bodycam video being released to the public during the court proceedings.

It was due to the words of her friends that led Caroline to end her life on February 15, at her residence in Stoke Newington, located in north-east London.

After five years, Caroline’s mourning mother is presently involved in creating a documentary for streaming service Disney+. The production company, Curious Films, who produced the 2021 documentary titled Caroline Flack: Her Life & Death, has commenced work on this project with an aim to shed light on her passing and investigate if there were chances to save her life.

Most of Caroline’s friends opted out, but those who joined felt uneasy about the interrogative approach.

It’s true that Curious Films have frequently invited me for a role within their press team. Christine shares this view, believing this participation might have negatively impacted Caroline’s mental state, eventually leading to her passing.

In their scheme, it was proposed that I would be questioned as well, to clarify the reasons behind certain articles appearing in newspapers. However, when I last met Caroline, at Soho House’s Festival at Kenwood House in July 2019, she was joyfully surrounded by journalists. Interestingly, even up until 2020, just before her passing, she was still briefing them.

As an ardent admirer, I find myself compelled to express my thoughts. When the news of Caroline’s passing swept through our circle, a heartfelt plea for kindness was echoed far and wide. However, it remains a mystery as to why this call for compassion is resonating so profoundly at this very moment.
