Central Saint Martins 2025 M.A. Exhibition Is Here

While not all designers who attend Central Saint Martins will become fashion legends, it’s quite common to find that many iconic fashion designers have studied there. Designers like Alexander McQueen, John Galliano, Phoebe Philo, Stella McCartney, Riccardo Tisci, Simone Rocha, and others are among the distinguished alumni of this esteemed program.

The opening night of London Fashion Week took place on Thursday, featuring this year’s designers: Petra Fagerstorm, Jake Zhang, Tuuli Turunen, Yaoyao Huang, Phinyophummin, Isidora Durovic, Liu Xueyang, Kelechi Mpamaugo, Jane Fu, Lucas Moretti, Zihan Miracle Liu, Oriol Clavell, Lily Teiger, Jude Braganza, Scar Kennedy, William Palmer, Jacek Gleba, Alison Keogh, and Kate Dewar. These designers showcased their collections during the annual graduate show.

Petra Fagerstorm and William Palmer received the highly respected L’Oreal Professionnel Award. To begin with, Fagerstorm, who kicked off the event, launched her own label bearing her name under the Swedish Fashion Council following many years of industry experience, during which she worked for prominent brands such as Acne and Balenciaga. Meanwhile, Palmer had previously worked in the fashion sector before joining a Master’s program, where he honed his skills as a designer at Craig Green, Walter Van Beirendonck, and COMME des GARÇONS.

As an admirer, I can’t help but be intrigued by how multiple designers, including Fagerstorm, have embraced AI as a dual catalyst and adversary in their creative endeavors. Alison Keogh and Kate Dewar, two visionaries in the fashion world, have dared to challenge AI by feeding it generic images of essential menswear pieces like collared shirts. The results? A series of unconventional, yet captivating iterations that they’ve endeavored to replicate.

Among the highlights was the work of 23-year-old designer Oriol Clavell from Catalonia. His collection delved into queer identity by employing techniques such as draping, 3D printing, and repurposing materials. Additionally, he will be making his debut during this season’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Madrid.
