I’m Still Here is finally out in the UK – and it’s about to become your new Oscars favourite
After a long wait, the Best Picture nominee “I’m Still Here” is now showing in cinemas across the UK prior to the upcoming Oscars next weekend.
The latest film by Walter Salles, known for “The Motorcycle Diaries” and “On the Road,” is inspired by the true events that unfolded in the life of politician Rubens Paiva during Brazil’s military rule in 1971.
The story, titled “I’m Still Here“, initially delves into the daily routine of the Paiva family, but later focuses on Eunice Paiva (played by Fernanda Torres) as she navigates through her husband Rubens’ mysterious disappearance and searches for the truth behind it.
Fernanda Torres has been awarded Best Actress in the Drama category at the Golden Globes, thanks to her outstanding acting.
Additionally, she’s deservedly received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress, mirroring the path set by her mother, Fernanda Montenegro, who became the initial Brazilian actress to secure a nomination in that category.
In the film “I’m Still Here,” Montenegro is depicted as the matured version of Eunice Paiva, fast-forwarding to the year 2014.
It’s uncertain if “I’m Still Here” or Fernanda Torres could pull off a shocking win at the Oscars, as she faces tough competition from Demi Moore and BAFTA winner Mikey Madison. The film is considered an underdog in the Best Picture category, and Emilia Pérez might edge it out for the Best International Feature Film award.
Nevertheless, regardless of whether it takes home an award or not, this heartfelt and superbly acted film still has a strong chance of becoming your next top pick for the Oscars.
At the moment, “I’m Still Here” stands out among the Best Picture nominees on Rotten Tomatoes with a remarkable 96% rating, surpassing its closest competitors such as “Anora” and “The Brutalist,” each holding a 94%.
Additionally, it has already made a strong impact during its initial showings in the UK and Ireland. For instance, screenings at the BFI Southbank in London and Glasgow Film Theatre have been fully booked. Moreover, the previews in six Irish cinemas last weekend were sufficient to secure fourth place at the Irish box office.
We assure you that you’ll be eager to catch up with those who have already enjoyed watching “I’m Still Here” this weekend in the cinema, if you haven’t done so yet.
