2013 saw the premiere of a film that served as my first foray into English-language directing – a project I collaborated on the script with Kelly Masterson, alongside my work on “Parasite”.
The graphic novel adaptation of “Le Transperceneige,” originally by Jacques Lob, Benjamin Legrand, and Jean-Marc Rochette, titled “Snowpiercer,” has recently been made available on ITV’s streaming platform, ITVX, allowing viewers to watch it for free.
On the review platform Rotten Tomatoes, where it earned a remarkable 94% rating, critics have lauded the movie as an “extraordinarily bold and thrilling action extravaganza.
In the year 2031, I find myself aboard a high-speed train that never stops moving, circling the Earth as a refuge from a frozen wasteland. This chilling tale, known as Snowpiercer, unfolds after an ill-fated climate intervention left us all on the brink of extinction.
On the train, travelers are divided into different classes under an unfair system of resource allocation, where those in the back are treated like stowaways and forced to subsist on protein bars made from insects such as cockroaches.
The gap between rich and poor leads to an uprising, where Curtis Everett steps forward as the head of this revolutionary movement.
This highly acclaimed film boasts an impressive cast that includes Tilda Swinton, Octavia Spencer, Jamie Bell, Ed Harris, and Song Kang-ho, along with several other talented actors.
The television show called “Snowpiercer” continues the storyline from both the movie and graphic novel, centering around the occurrences that took place seven years subsequent to when the world entered a deep freeze.
The show, boasting Bong Joon-ho as one of its executive producers, was created by Josh Friedman and Graeme Manson. It spanned over four seasons and aired from the years 2020 to 2024.
In the United Kingdom, you can now stream the movie “Snowpiercer” on ITVX. Starting from March 9th, all four seasons of the television series will also be accessible on this platform.
