A$AP Mob’s Dark Legacy: Tragedy, Betrayal, and Rocky’s Not Guilty Verdict!
Initially, A$AP Rocky gained prominence as a member of the New York collective known as A$AP Mob. Their turbulent past reached new heights when A$AP Rocky was put on trial for allegedly shooting his friend and fellow group member, A$AP Relli.
36, the star, made news on Wednesday after being acquitted for the shooting incident involving A$AP Relli (Terell Ephron), which took place in Hollywood back in 2021.
A three-time Grammy nominee, currently dating Rihanna, faces two charges of felony assault involving a semi-automatic weapon.
Initially, they were companions within the A$AP Mob group during their high school years in New York City. However, their friendship disintegrated when Rocky gained fame, causing a rift that left some members struggling in its wake, with several succumbing to drug-related problems.
The A$AP Mob is an American hip-hop group established in 2006 in Harlem, New York City. This group primarily comprises rappers, music producers, video directors, and fashion designers, who are often recognized by the ASAP (Always Strive And Prosper) nickname they share.
In 2006, the team was established by a man called Steven Rodriguez, who is also known as A$AP Yams, alongside A$AP Bari, A$AP Illz, and A$AP Kham.
The team grew larger over time as members like A$AP Rocky, FERG, Playboi Carti, A$AP Twelvvy, A$AP Nast, A$AP Ant, and others joined the group following the year 2011.
After A$AP Rocky introduced himself with his first mixtape titled “Live.Love.ASAP”, the group followed up with their initial project called “Lords Never Worry” in 2012.
Over time, each of the 22 crew members experienced varying outcomes; unfortunately, around four of them died primarily as a result of suspected drug overdoses.
After our beloved friend, ASAP Yams, departed, our tight-knit group started to experience some cracks, and as my brother ASAP Rocky achieved greater mainstream acclaim, these splits became more pronounced.
During the trial, ASAP Rocky’s legal team explained that Relli had harbored resentment and anger towards his former teenage friend and bandmate due to their increased musical success.
In the verdict of A$AP Rocky’s trial, TopMob delves into the unfortunate circumstances that have befallen several members of the A$AP Mob.
ASAP Yams
On January 18, 2015, the series of unfortunate events began with the passing of ASAP Yams, a prominent hip-hop figure and one of the co-owners of ASAP Worldwide record label, at just 26 years old.
He was a founder of the ASAP Mob collective.
As I reflect on the events that led to my passing, I can confirm that, according to a report by The New York Times, it was determined that multiple drug intoxications were the unfortunate cause of my demise.
Instead, the ASAP Mob members and associates asserted that Yams passed away due to asphyxia resulting from vomiting, caused by sleep apnea, and they strongly refuted any claims suggesting he used drugs.
A representative from New York City’s main medical examiner announced back then that his death was caused by a severe overdose involving multiple drugs, such as opiates and benzodiazepines.

The death was ruled an accident.
Early on the morning of January 18, Steven Rodriguez, also known as ASAP Yams, was discovered unconscious in his Brooklyn residence. He was subsequently transferred to Woodhull Medical Center in Brooklyn, where regrettably, he was confirmed deceased.
Rapper ASAP Yams played a significant role in launching the musical career of ASAP Rocky, whose 2013 album, “Long.Live.ASAP,” topped the Billboard album charts upon its release.
A few week after his death ASAP Rocky was attending the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah.
He performed a set at the event which he cut short as he was struggling with his grief.
He told Billboard at the time: ‘That performance — that was just going to stop me from crying
I found myself needing to deal with it since throughout my performance, I wasn’t feeling it – which is unfortunate. However, I must be truthful. I can’t pretend about this. The difficult part is knowing I have to depart in under an hour for a flight to bury him. That aspect troubles me deeply.
He clarified the reason behind ASAP Yams’ demise, stating emphatically that Yams did not die from an overdose of any drugs.
It seems that people perceive A$AP Yams the way they do because most of what he’s depicted in photos is drinking Hennessy, sipping purple drinks, and appearing to use controlled substances or illicit drugs.
He declined to discuss the real cause of Yams’ passing.
The group was working on a debut album before Yams passed away in 2015.
After that point, they released two compilation albums: Cozy Tapes Vol. 1: Friends in 2016 and Cozy Tapes Vol. 2: Too Cozy in 2017.
ASAP Snacks
Then on February 2, 2020, J. Scott, also known as ASAP Snacks, died.
At a given point, the Mob, along with artists like A$AP Rocky, A$AP Ferg, Vince Staples, and numerous others in the music industry, paid their respects to him via Twitter.
He served as a producer, disc jockey, and creative force behind The Mob and Cozy Boys, which was the title of their first studio album’s release.
It was not ever confirmed how he died but rumours online alleged it to be drug related.
In the depths of my fandom, I struggle to find the right words, unsure of what to express. Rest In Peace, dear A$AP, to the realm of the deceased you go. My love for you, J Snacks, remains unwavering.
ASAP Ferg said in his tribute: ‘Man, words can’t even describe how I feel right now.

May you find eternal peace, dear brother @jscottandshit. You were one of the most vital individuals I had the pleasure of knowing, but it seems that heaven required your presence. Taken from us far too soon, you will always be our ‘cozy boy’, cherished for life. My heartfelt love to you, my friend.
Originally from Atlanta, this individual began his journey with the group following his relocation to New York City. It was here that he encountered the late A$AP Yams, who subsequently invited him to spin tunes for Rocky.
Chynna Rogers
After that, on the 8th of April, 2020, Chynna Rogers tragically passed away due to an unintentional drug overdose. At the time, she was just 25 years old.
The star from Philadelphia was a model-turned-rapper.
‘The family expressed that Chynna was greatly cherished and will be dearly missed, as shared with NBC News.’
James Garrow, representative for the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, stated that Rogers passed away due to an unintentional drug overdose.
At 14 years old, Chynna joined Ford Models following her discovery in New Jersey. Yet, even then, she harbored ambitions for a career within the music industry.
While attending high school, she collaborated with the late A$AP Yams, eventually helping him establish A$AP Mob as a collective.

2018 saw an interview with Pitchfork where she opened up about her struggle with addiction and how the passing of her mother affected her attempts at staying sober.
She shared with the press: “I acknowledged that I no longer had command over the situation on the day when I didn’t feel like using drugs, and my body seemed to say, ‘Woman, you need to get high or else you’ll start vomiting and behaving absurdly.’ It was extremely aggravating.
Eventually, it became necessary for me to take action so I could perform on stage and carry out my duties. However, I wasn’t happy about it.
It became excessive, as it shifted from enjoyable to obligatory, which is a sign you should take a break.
In the realm of music, I must confess, the advice you won’t often receive is this: Be wary of those who claim to have the golden key, for in many cases, they are simply reflecting their own imperfections. The more you’re warned against a path, the more intriguing it becomes, stirring an irresistible curiosity within us all.
ASAP Josh
On October 16, 2021, ASAP Josh died.
Again, it was not ever confirmed how he died but rumours online alleged it to be drug related.
At the time his family set up a Go Fund Me to help pay for funeral expenses.
At that moment, his followers expressed their sentiments on the web with messages such as: “Deeply saddened. Hard to accept you won’t return. Rest in peace, Josh.
‘Rest in paradise.’, ‘Rest In Peace.’, ‘That’s crazy I was just with him.’

The future
Just last month FERG brutally confirmed that ASAP Mob is a ‘thing of the past’.
‘Well I don’t think there is A$AP anymore,’ FERG explained.
‘A$AP Worldwide isn’t releasing a new tape or functioning as an office or a record label currently. Instead, it seems like it’s an element of our past. I believe people are still attached to the legacy we established and the things we created.’
When considering A$AP, musically speaking, you might associate it with both me and Rocky, as he further explained.
Those responsible for creating the music are indeed essential, with contributions from Bari and Yams being crucial foundations. However, since we serve as the public persona, it seems to me that if we aren’t producing any new music or setting fresh milestones, then there would be no A$AP in the limelight.
On Wednesday ASAP Rocky was found not guilty in court.
On Tuesday, Rihanna broke down in tears upon hearing the not guilty verdicts. With the possibility of facing up to 24 years in prison if found guilty, A$AP Rocky rushed towards her for an embrace once he was cleared of a long prison term.

With a heart full of gratitude, A$AP Rocky expressed his thanks to the jury, a mix of seven women and five men, as he exited the courtroom. Afterward, he was spotted savoring a victorious meal with Rihanna in the upscale neighborhood of Beverly Hills.
For three weeks, Relli provided testimony stating that Rocky, known as Rakim Athelston Mayers, discharged two bullets from a handgun, causing minor injuries to his own knuckles.
The rapper’s attorney, Joe Tacopina, claimed that the gun the rapper had was only a fake one, not capable of firing real bullets. He also called the witness, Relli, an angry person with psychological issues who repeatedly lied under oath during the trial.
It wasn’t immediately obvious if the jury decided based on him having a fake gun, or if they thought his actions were defensive.
On Tuesday, jurors commenced their discussions following three weeks of evidence presentation and debates. In approximately three hours, they managed to arrive at a consensus, reaching a unified verdict.
As a devoted admirer, I found myself in a unique position guided by Judge Mark S. Arnold’s instruction: to acquit Rocky, I needed to believe his actions were driven by the necessity of self-defense.
On Tuesday evening, Rihanna shared an inspiring message on her Instagram Stories following the announcement of a court decision.
According to the artist who made ‘We Found Love,’ it’s God alone who deserves all the praise and glory! They expressed their gratitude and humility towards His mercy.
According to Tacopina, Relli harbored resentment and anger towards his former teenage friend and bandmate Rocky, due to Rocky’s greater musical success. Consequently, Relli chose a risky path of action.
Upon learning that Rocky hadn’t covered the costs for a shared friend’s funeral, Relli became enraged and made it clear he intended to resort to physical confrontation with Rocky.
Indeed, I must clarify a misconception – Rocky did cover the funeral costs. Prior to my interaction with Rocky in Hollywood on November 6, 2021, Relli was upset and, surprisingly, it was he who was seeking confrontation that evening.
