BBC’s “ludicrous” thriller from Line of Duty team is confirmed to be returning
BBC thriller Vigil has been confirmed to be returning.
In the upcoming third season, the hit series produced by World Productions brings back actresses Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie reprising their roles as detectives Amy Silva and Kirsten Longacre, who take on a fresh investigation together.
In the initial season, debuting in 2021 and labeled “ridiculous” by an IMDb viewer, the storyline revolved around a murder aboard a navy submarine. The subsequent season unfolded approximately two years later, with its narrative centered on a fresh investigation concerning a drone assault.
In a while this year, the third installment will commence shooting, transporting viewers to a secluded Arctic outpost where a secret member of the British special forces on a mission is fatally wounded.
Amy and Kirsten must work together to apprehend the culprit and prevent a looming geopolitical conflict, which originates from disputes over energy and resources in the shifting polar regions. Their professional lives and personal bond are at stake.
Jones is eagerly anticipating the third season of Vigil, looking forward to reuniting with our exceptional cast in Scotland, and collaborating with Rose once more. I have no doubt that it promises to be an exhilarating journey ahead.
Leslie excitedly mentioned: “I can hardly wait to dive back into another season of ‘Vigil’, work with the fantastic Suranne Jones once more, along with our amazing team. This time around, Kirsten will have the opportunity to travel with Amy as they embark on what promises to be ‘Vigil’s’ most thrilling mission yet!
Tom Edge, the creator, is thrilled that Suranne and Rose will be back for another exciting journey. In the upcoming season 3, the story takes us to the frigid northern regions where global powers are in a race to claim benefits as the ice thaws.
As I dive into this project with an exceptional team of creators, I’m excited to help bring an unforgettable, immersive exploration to life. This journey promises to shed light on matters that will significantly impact our shared reality.
Edge had hinted at the possibility of a third season in 2023, stating that for it to be compelling, it should seem as though there’s an immediate need to express something significant, not just from a character perspective but also concerning the environment or setting where these characters’ stories might unfold.
“But I will say, the world does not seem short on turbulence and on questions,” he added.
Vigil season 3 is yet to confirm a release date. Seasons 1-2 are streaming now on BBC iPlayer.
