In Hearthstone, the expansion ‘Into the Emerald Dream’ will introduce two fresh abilities: Imbue and Dark Gifts. Additionally, it’s extending the functionality of the ‘Choose One’ keyword.

Last week, Blizzard unveiled the Hearthstone roadmap for 2025 to players, confirming that the first expansion of Year of the Raptor is titled “Into the Emerald Dream.” This expansion will bring forth card reveals before its launch, a special Tavern Brawl pre-release, an in-game event, updates to the Core Set, a new rewards system, and more. Recently, Blizzard has disclosed that “Into the Emerald Dream” will introduce two fresh keywords: Imbue and Dark Gifts. Furthermore, it will broaden the capabilities of the Choose One keyword.

Hearthstone expands Choose One keyword

Historically, Druid cards have utilized the “Choose One” ability for a wide range of gameplay options. Now, this feature is being extended to additional classes. For instance, the Warrior class now has Ominous Nightmares Shadow spell, while the Rogue class gains the Barbed Thorn weapon.

How the Imbue keyword works in Hearthstone

In the game Hearthstone, when a player employs an ‘Imbue’ card while playing as a Druid, Hunter, Mage, Paladin, Priest, or Shaman, they receive a unique Imbued hero power tailored to their class. Each subsequent use of their hero power causes the figures within the hero power description to increase.

Let’s examine the Umbraclaw minion, a creature that falls under the Hunter class. When this card is played, the ‘Imbue’ ability transforms the standard Hunter hero power into “Blessing of the Wolf.” This new hero power enhances a randomly selected Beast from your hand by increasing its attack by 1 and reducing its mana cost by 1. However, when you activate the Imbued hero power, the boost gets stronger, increasing the attack by 1 and lowering the mana cost by 2 instead.

Hearthstone Dark Gifts keyword explained

Afterward, we encounter the fresh Dark Gifts mechanic in Hearthstone. Essentially, Dark Gifts are enhancements for minions that work alongside Discover choices for the Death Knight, Demon Hunter, Rogue, Warlock, and Warrior character classes. Some cards with this attribute include Treacherous Tormentor and Darkrider.

As stated by Blizzard, there are ten unique Dark Gifts that can enhance the Discovery choices for your minions. Notably, when you utilize a Dark Gift card during the Discovery process, you will have the ability to select from gifts associated with any of the three distinct minions.

  • +3 Attack and Lifesteal
  • +2/+2 and Elusive
  • Costs (2) less, but has -2 Attack. (Only offered on minions whose Attack would not reduce below 1)
  • Charge
  • When you play this, summon a 2/2 copy of it.
  • This minion’s Battlecries trigger twice. (Only offered on minions with Battlecries)
  • +4 Health and Taunt
  • Reborn. Is Reborn with full health and enchantments.
  • +4/+5. Place this card on top of your deck.
  • Divine Shield, Windfury
