Gamers are eager for updates on games like Fallout 5 and a first look at gameplay for Grand Theft Auto VI. They’re especially frustrated with The Elder Scrolls VI, as all they’ve seen so far is a landscape of mountains. Because Bethesda seems to have announced The Elder Scrolls VI prematurely, it looks like that’s all we’ll get for a while. This is leading fans waiting for Grand Theft Auto VI to feel a bit better, realizing their wait might not be so bad after all.
The Elder Scrolls 6 Reveal Gives GTA 6 Fans Some Perspective
A Reddit user on r/GTA6 recently pointed out something interesting. They shared a screenshot of the original Elder Scrolls VI teaser trailer, released in 2018, with the caption, “We can be grateful.” The caption highlights the fact that Bethesda showed a teaser for Elder Scrolls VI almost eight years ago and hasn’t mentioned the game since, suggesting GTA 6‘s development time isn’t so bad in comparison.
Fans of GTA VI have been anxiously awaiting the third trailer for the upcoming game from Rockstar. As of today, only two official trailers have been released – one in December 2023 and another in May 2025 – meaning it’s been nearly a year since the last update. While some fans worry about possible delays, it’s worth remembering that GTA VI fans aren’t waiting quite as long as those anticipating The Elder Scrolls VI.
The original Reddit post sparked a lot of discussion in the comments section. One user pointed out the stark contrast in information available: “We know a great deal about GTA 6, but all we know about TES6 is that it’s being made and will likely have more trees than Skyrim.” Another user, ButtersTheChill, expressed pessimism, saying Todd Howard, a key figure at Bethesda, seems frustrated when asked about TES6. They questioned why a teaser was released if the game isn’t close to completion, and worried it might be as disappointing as Starfield, or even worse. They jokingly suggested Rockstar Games could create a fantasy game to demonstrate how it’s done, but acknowledged that would take years.
When Is The Elder Scrolls 6 Launching?
It’s really anyone’s guess when The Elder Scrolls VI will come out. Bethesda’s Todd Howard doesn’t even like to discuss the game yet, which suggests it was announced prematurely. Given how popular The Elder Scrolls games are, the developers are under a lot of pressure to make the next one exceptional, especially considering the success of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which came out in 2011. If I had to make a prediction, I wouldn’t expect to see The Elder Scrolls VI until at least 2030.
