Chris Hemsworth’s long-awaited Netflix sequel finally confirmed with returning stars

Netflix has officially greenlit a third Extraction film starring Chris Hemsworth. Several other actors from previous installments will also be back.

As reported by Deadline, Chris Hemsworth will return as Tyler Rake in another film, following his performances in the 2020 original and the 2023 sequel.

Idris Elba and Golshifteh Farahani are confirmed to reprise their roles as the mysterious stranger and Nik Khan. Sam Hargrave will also return as director, having directed the previous films.

David Weil, the creator of Invasion, is now writing the script, replacing Joe Russo who wrote the previous two movies.

Following the release of the previous film three years ago, plans for Extraction 3 were announced. However, there haven’t been many updates about the project since then.

Filming was expected to start in June and continue until October, according to reports last month. Although specific plot details haven’t been revealed yet, it’s been suggested that the story will take place in Australia.

Filming for the sequel is expected to happen in Sydney. The second movie was originally planned to film there too, but had to move to Prague because of COVID-19 restrictions. Part of Extraction 3 will also be filmed in Europe.

Last year, Chris Hemsworth hinted to The Hollywood Reporter that he’s eager to reprise his role as Tyler Rake in another film. He said he feels a strong desire to play the character again and that discussions about a potential sequel are underway.

Okay, so I just finished watching both Extraction and Extraction 2 on Netflix – they were awesome! But I’m already checking for news on Extraction 3 and this new series, Mercenary, which is supposed to be connected. Unfortunately, Netflix hasn’t announced when those will be dropping yet, so I’m stuck waiting like everyone else.
