Married At First Sight’s Dean Wells is facing criticism for an inappropriate joke he made referencing pornography aimed at older people.

Since becoming known on the popular Channel Nine show in 2018, the TV personality has also tried her hand at stand-up comedy.

It seems he might need to refine his comedic approach after receiving harsh criticism online.

The Instagram account The Para Social Club recently posted a clip of Dean telling jokes, hoping to make people laugh.

The video of Dean, which included a strange and inappropriate bit about ‘grandma porn’, likely won’t be remembered as one of his best moments.

‘I’ve got a mate that’s into grandma porn,’ Dean declared in the clip.

We’ve all heard the excuse – pretending something embarrassing isn’t about you, like saying “I’m just asking for a friend.” But that’s not what’s going on in this situation.

With no punchline in sight, Dean continued with his strange routine.

People often express concern about the performers in pornography, frequently commenting that they could be someone’s daughter or sister, he explained.

‘Imagine if that was your nan.’ 

Dean continued with his usual approach, but then surprisingly argued that grandmothers shouldn’t be judged for appearing in adult films.

He expressed strong support for Nans’ decision to work in the adult film industry, stating he saw no reason why they shouldn’t pursue it and should be free to explore their sexuality with anyone they choose.

‘Women in general now. We’ve taken away the stigma from women having multiple sex partners.

Why has there historically been judgment around female sexuality? Women should be free to pursue relationships as they choose, without facing criticism, and be empowered to own their choices.

Honestly, I’ve seen a lot of performances lately, and this one took a really unexpected turn. It started by challenging the negativity around body image and celebrating body positivity, which I always appreciate seeing. But then, the comedian ended with a joke that was… well, let’s just say it was pretty inappropriate and definitely crossed a line. It left a lot of the audience uncomfortable, and it wasn’t the smoothest finish to what started as a really positive message.

‘Let’s have a round of applause for all the fat s***s out there,’ he said. ‘Love the fat s***s.’  

Dean’s strange performance didn’t go over well, and viewers quickly shared negative comments about it.

Someone remarked that the comment probably should have been kept to themselves, and another jokingly added that it took 70 seconds for anyone to react with laughter.

Another cheekily suggested that they were still waiting for the comedy to begin.

‘So when are you gonna post the stand up comedy bit?’ they asked.

One confused commenter refused to admit that the clip was real.

‘This can’t be real, I refuse to accept anyone would remotely think this is “comedy”,’ they wrote.

It didn’t end there, either, with one  person slamming the routine as ‘vile’.

‘Vile and deeply unfunny,’ they wrote. 

Does anyone around him offer a reality check, or is everyone he knows just as awkward?

Dean became well-known on the fifth season of Married At First Sight when he had an affair with Davina Rankin while still ‘married’ to Tracey Jewel on the show.

He has since made headlines for his controversial and outspoken views.

In 2023, Dean’s management company, Stage Addiction, ended their relationship with him after he shared an edited photo that criticized a drag queen story time event.
