David Tennant Steals the Show at BAFTAs with Outfits, Jokes, and a Wardrobe Malfunction!

BAFTAs host David Tennant went down a hit amongst viewers for a second year running on Sunday.

53-year-old actor from Doctor Who assumed leadership from Richard E. Grant last year and was reappointed for the role during this year’s prestigious award event.

Not only did the actor captivate the crowd and spectators, but his performance also earned him numerous accolades. This was achieved through three different outfits and starting the event with an unexpected rendition of “I’m Gonna Be” by The Proclaimers.

In my expert opinion, when David graced the stage on that BBC show, he certainly didn’t hold back. He kicked things off with a sharp jab at none other than Donald Trump, which got quite a reaction. And if you recall, mere moments into his performance, an unexpected wardrobe mishap added a bit of unplanned drama to the mix.

Following his grand entrance on the red carpet in a stunning long suit, David paid homage to his Scottish heritage by donning a kilt as he took the stage. Later, for the remainder of the presentation, he switched to a tartan tuxedo.

Kicking off the night with an exciting monologue, David’s microphone wire fell out of his kilt.

He joked: ‘We’ll cut that bit out’.

Elsewhere, David couldn’t help but make a jab at Donald Trump in his savage opening script.

David compared The Brutalist to the presidency when discussing its impressive architecture, stating that it’s “a movie showcasing extraordinary design, and in terms of architectural boldness in films released this year, it rivals only Donald Trump’s hairstyle in The Apprentice.

In reference to the movie depicting Trump’s life where Sebastian Stan portrays the real estate tycoon, David humorously suggested it might be improbable that the president watched it.

He said: ‘It’s a 15 and it’s not on Nickelodeon.

Concerning Donald Trump… I find myself apprehensive. Mentioning his name thrice, it seems as though I’ve invoked him, similar to the character Beetlejuice being called three times.

Afterward, he carried on with his criticisms, adding, “On the subject of villains,” followed by a brief pause for a moment of solemn stillness.

Home viewers expressing high regard for the actor, with some comments such as: “David Tennant is simply exceptional… He carries off any role effortlessly.

“I have such admiration for David Tennant!”

This statement conveys the same enthusiasm and appreciation as the original, but it is rephrased in a more natural and easy-to-understand manner.

At the 2025 BAFTAs, Mikey Madison and Adrien Brody were awarded Best Actress and Best Actor respectively, while both “Conclave” and “The Brutalist” films received four accolades each, making them the top winners.

In the roles that propelled them to stardom in “The Brutalist” and “Anora,” respectively, Adrien, aged 51, and Mikey, at 25 years old, graciously received their accolades during the live ceremony.

The acclaimed actress, aged 46, was swiftly taken away from the camera after uttering profanities, exclaiming “damn, damn, damn” in haste due to a rushed countdown.

In a heartfelt moment, I found myself overcome with emotion as I graciously accepted the accolade. It was incredibly rewarding and a profound honor to receive this recognition, especially after being advised by speech coaches that my British accent might not be suitable.

Listing off her thank yous, Zoe said: ‘Oh my god I’m getting a countdown. F*** f*** f***!’

Despite having a notable cast led by Selena Gomez, the Mexican film has garnered varied opinions from critics, yet it’s been nominated for an impressive total of 11 awards.

41-year-old Jesse Eisenberg graciously accepted the Best Supporting Actor award that went to his fellow actor, Kieran Culkin, for Eisenberg’s leading performance in “A Real Pain.

Grabbing Kieran’s trophy, which he acknowledged was his fifth award of the season won for him, Jesse quipped playfully: “This just reinforces what I’ve always suspected… our lives are quite alike, but his is about 27% more impressive than mine.

In a more straightforward and conversational manner: Jesse, both the director and lead actor in “A Real Pain,” won the award for Best Original Screenplay and delivered a heartfelt speech on stage.

Having been awarded the runner-up position in the film contest, he confessed, “Since I didn’t believe I would win, I didn’t compose anything. I wish to dedicate this recognition to my wife, who couldn’t attend as she also doubted my victory.

As I stood before you all, humbled and filled with gratitude, I couldn’t help but reflect on the incredible journey that led me to this moment – a journey made even more profound by the love and loss I’ve experienced. Last year, my beloved wife Samantha David left us too soon, and today, as I accept this prestigious BAFTA Fellowship, I couldn’t help but think of her and the incredible impact she had on my life. Orlando Bloom and Vanesa Kirby graced the stage to present Jesse’s BAFTA award at the ceremony. 

In a recent awards ceremony, Demi Moore’s film, titled “The Substance,” won the category for Best Makeup and Hairstyling. On the other hand, the upcoming movie, “Dune: Part Two,” garnered two awards. One of these was for Excellent Sound, while the other went to Outstanding Visual Effects.

During the event, Wallace and Gromit were honored with two BAFTA awards – one for Best Animation and another for Best Children’s and Family Film.

In a heartfelt gesture, debutant filmmaker and director Rich Peppiatt received the award for Outstanding Debut and paid tribute to everyone bravely battling their own struggles, expressing his admiration for their resilience.

In an unanticipated turn of events, Jon M. Chu’s film, Wicked, clinched its initial BAFTA award for Best Production Design during the ceremony. As the night progressed, the box-office hit garnered another accolade, this time for Best Costume Design.
